Memes aside let's be real here. The first game was pretty fun and while the plot is pretty much fanfic tier and gets worse with each installment the biggest problem is the series is spread across a gajillion systems and the plot is impossible to keep up with by just playing the main console games.
And the story being all "muh heart, muh darkness, blah blah blah" is pretty meh. There are similarly styled action RPGs so why play one whose story you don't personally like?
