Been wondering if it's possible for people to "imprint" on a console and its iterations, similar to how people tend to stick with the first OS they're exposed to. For instance, would some kid started with an n64 be likelier to become a nintendrone and stay away from Playstations/Xboxes n shit?

PS1. I was born in 1989 and I didn't really get into videogames until I was about 7 years old. I think the PS1 had been out for just a little while when I got one for christmas.

I owned a PS2 solely for Dragonquest and Final Fantasy as a teenager.
I'm not going to lie, 90% of my gaming experience has been Nintendo first party, and platformers are still my favorite genre of video game (though I don't play that much anymore), with turn-based RPGs taking second place. I like to play easy, cheerful games like Mario and Pokemon to relax after lots of studying and working. I'm probably the closest thing to a "Nintendrone" on this board, and will unabashedly buy the NX. Pic related is my game collection, with more at my parent's place since I'm away for university.

I've played Xbox games at a friend's house. I think they're alright but never really had a strong urge to purchase an Xbox. I got PS2 because my stepdad had money and I wanted another console besides Gamecube. Got a PS3 to play some multiplats that didn't get released on a Nintendo plat. I liked Genesis because, like Nintendo, much of their games were very arcade-like. Granted I do like RPGs, such as Tales of Graces or Xenoblade, but overall I've gravitated towards playing stuff like Metal Gear Rising, Mario Kart, F-Zero, Sanic, Gradius, Megaman, Catherine, Z.O.Es, etc.

Eh, I know, but I wasn't the one making executive decisions regarding game systems up until a few years ago when I became my family's expert on the subject. For a while it was just my older brother making purchasing decisions (as far as consoles went), and whatever we happened to get I more or less went "neat" and found something to play on it.

I've stuck with my PC and Nintendo consoles throughout my life so far. I keep wanting to try out the sequels to games I love and until recently only had enough money to buy one console per generation. I was gonna buy a PS4 if it had backwards compatibility but now I'm thinking I might pick up an original PS3 and play all the Playstation games I missed out on from the earlier generations.

Because I moved out and didn't have room for my gaming crap I threw everything away except for my PS3 and 3DS.
10 years ago I would flip the fuck out at the thought of throwing away gaming hardware and games. But emulation is so good nowadays that I don't consider keeping consoles worth the space it takes in anymore.
Also I will never buy another console again because they are just fucking media boxes with no personality now.

Not him, but it's not even save states that I like. I like the better graphic fidelity, going back to shitty low res interlaced output on modern tvs (any TV really) is just awful. With emulation I can scale the rendering and actually see the art clear as crystal. Not to mention other perks like I can throw a game up on one of my monitors and play while I do other stuff on my computer, and having access to all sorts of control setup options.
Too bad my rig is so fucking underpowered, I have to use my original PS2 to play a lot of more demanding games.
