Opinions on this game?
I've seen this posted here a few days ago and picked up the undub on a whim. Its suprisingly fun.
A very under rated title. For some reason people think a bad dub makes the game bad, and very few actually played it after laughing at that video.
>>335930587
Shit.
>>335930587
The story is shit and the characters are almost all unlikable, hypocritical cunts. Especially this faggot.
>>335930587
I liked it a lot, the system where you learn skill by placing Tetris like block on a grid is great and it's actualy one of the hardest RPG i've ever played, the story is okayish, pretty standard JRPG stuff
Most people don't get how the combat works, whine about the VA and end up saying the game suck, these people are idiots
>>335931517
Well, did you play the game or did you just watch videos of the awful awful dub?
Because undubbed its actually pretty enjoyable
>>335931672
I actually like the characters so far, but I haven't reached the "twist" yetI "kinda" know what happens, but not why and how so I'm still relatively unspoiled
>>335932357
>Well, did you play the game
Yes. Got pretty far too, still got the save file. Played undubbed as well, didn't help much. Pretty much what >>335931672 wrote.
>>335931517
When every game is shit, none of them will be.
>>335932612
Maybe I'm just starved for modern JRPGs. I felt like I've pretty much played every worthwhile gen 7 upwards JRPG and had to dig through older stuff, so having something with pleasant, sharp graphics and precise menus is really refreshing
I think the best thing about this game is that the boss battles always expect you to give it your all
>>335933341
Funny you said that, I played it for the same reason as well back when I did. It tried somewhat I'll give it that but ultimately it always kept me a few yawns away from dropping it, felt bored all the time. Pretty graphics and special moves choreography, its strong points imo, weren't enough.
>>335933698
Can you recommend any relatively modern JRPGs I've probably not played yet?
>>335934672
>modern
Now there's a term I can't really understand. Which jrpgs would you consider modern? I categorize them mainly from gameplay perspective: Turn-based, action-based, strategy etc. Can you elaborate on the modern part while I make up a shitty list of games I liked?
>>335934672
Eh, fuck it, made a list anyway. If you can emulate ARF on dolphin you can probably emulate/play all included here.
Wii+GC:
Xenoblade Chronicles
The Last Storytexture bugs on dolphin
Skies of Arcadia
PC:
Trails in the Sky FC+SC
Grandia 2
PS2:every title here has an undub ver.
Rogue Galaxy
Dot hack GU Trilogy
Dark Cloud 2
Radiata Stories
Shadow Heart 1+2
Suikoden 5
Wild Arms 3,4,5
Xenosaga Trilogy
FF 12 IZJS
PSP:
Jeanne D'Arc
FF Crisis Core
Growlancer 4
Lunar Silver Star Harmony
>>335936770
When I try to emulate Growlancer 4 the half of the letters in the text get replaced with Ys, is the Emu paradise rom broken or is it fucked for PPSSPP?
>>335930587
It's solid. Pretty much a turn based Tales game.
>>335930587
Pretty good game, but the dub is fucking terrible. And I actually like SO4 dub, so that should say something. Not worth the price it goes for nowadays though.
>>335937023
I wouldn't know. Played that one on a psp. You could try this on google, see where it leads you. Its the one I got.

Well we were talking about gen 7 upwards games, so I thought you'd make that connection
Thanks for the list, let me go through it:
Played:
>Grandia 2
>Trails FC+SC
>Xenoblade Chronicles
>Skies of Arcadia
Haven't beaten it though; I can totally see its charm but it has a lot of dull moments
>FF12IZJS
>Crisis Core
suprises me that anyone would actually recommend that; I liked FF7 though so I played this aswell
>xenosaga 1
Can't get myself to play it, couldn't stand the barrage of 20-minute-cutscenes and awful artstyle
Not sure about the Wild Arms Series, seems confusing. Where should I start?
I might also check out Dark Cloud 2. Wasn't it an action RPG though? I'm always hesitant to play those because they generally don't age well.
Not really interested into the other series right now. Shadow Heart maybe, but they also seem like really weird games that are hard to get into
>>335936770
>Growlanser 4
Leonya is best girl
KILLIN U DED
But nah
Good game if you can get past dub and story

Put Xenosaga 1 there because its part of the trilogy. If I have to be completely honest the only one worth its weight in gold is 3 but you can't really play it without playing the other 2. They got their moments too, just not as good as 3.2 is even worse imo
>Not sure about the Wild Arms Series, seems confusing. Where should I start?
Start with 3. Pretty basic battle system, a good story and a sweetheart FeMC that's on par with Estelle from Trails. If you like it enough check out WA:Code F, remake of the 1st game then work your way to the newer ones. 4+5 have a grid battle system, nothing like the older ones so you might like them or hate them. Pretty good story/characters on all of them though, also god-tier OST for the whole series.
>I might also check out Dark Cloud 2. Wasn't it an action RPG though? I'm always hesitant to play those because they generally don't age well.
It is. Its pretty good even for today's standards. Give it a spin, see what you make of it.
>Shadow Heart maybe, but they also seem like really weird games that are hard to get into
Don't let cover art/3d semi-realism fool you. They're as "anime" as they get. Also prepare for feels if you try them.
>>335939136
Man Wild Arms 3 has really shitty designs but I like the novelty and the way the battles play out, so maybe I'll give it a shot someday.
>>335939915
It's worth playing more than 4 and 5 at least.
>>335936770
>texture bugs on dolphin
I'm pretty sure there's been a way around that for a long time, unless I'm thinking of a different issue.
He might not be able to emulate Rogue Galaxy and Xenosaga. Xenosaga especially requires a beefy CPU to run well.
>>335939136
>the only one worth its weight in gold is 3 but you can't really play it without playing the other 2
You could definitely skip 2 if you don't like it, since 3 has a pretty nice encyclopedia entry that covers the important events.
