How to get into the beta:
1. Right click on Risk of Rain in the steam library
2.Click on Properties
3.Go to the Betas tab

enemies will always begin an attack animation when you are close to them. they also begin attacking if you are directly above or below them, so don't jump down on them or climb up from underneath.
all enemies have a lead up time on their attacks. it's long enough that you should be able to trigger it and back up/jump to avoid the attack, then you can counter or run past them. if you have enough hoofs you can just run through mobs, although you will still have to jump to avoid ranged attacks.
don't use your dodge skill just to go faster. a teleporting or spawning enemy can surprise you and you will need it.
always keep moving. if there are too many enemies to time them all just jump constantly as you run.
use the ropes. most of this game you will be running away, non-flying enemies can't follow you on a rope. but beware orange enemies, they fire homing missiles.
