To me, being Christian in the Mass Effect universe just doesn't make sense. When you're faced with powers that can wipe out the universe with a command, mingling of more-advanced and numerous intelligent species from all across the known universe, and technology that is indistinguishable from magic and super powers, what place is there for Christianity? If humans are made in the image of God, that implies that God is or at least looks human, and, like Islam, claims that humans are the "chosen people" of God. So God is more powerful than even the Reapers, but he likes Humans the best, despite Humans being "middle class" in racial-technological-advancement terms. And if humans, or even ANY race were the "chosen people" of God, why would God let the Reapers steamroll every race in the universe on a constant cycle without repercussions? Does that mean God supports the Reapers? Are THEY God's chosen people? If so, then Christianity is like Edgelord-style Satanism, praying to the powers that guide the destructors of the universe. How can you base your ideologies around Christian fundamentals in the face of all this, aside from pure ignorance?
I can understand being religious in the M.E universe, believing in some kind of ultimate neutral consciousness or force of nature that guides the flow of the universe, or some other thing that explains creation and nature without concrete evidence, but Christianity just seems like Ashley clinging to traditional values for tradition's sake.
And why would I want that in a nigh-Utopian science-fiction future world? As a player, humanity has never bee less important to me. I want to experience the cultures and technologies and sexual organs of all these alien species.
