I think I get what they were trying to go for, though. This game was the conclusion of Geralt's story, and in a lot of ways the start of Ciri's. So they wanted to portray the concern of Geralt, who as a parent is terrified of all these things going on in his daughter's life that he can no longer control. You're not really there to save the day anymore, you're there to make sure that Ciri can, and at the end of the day you can't help her deal with it all, she has to handle it on her own.
