No news yet, but maybe an update will happen soon?
>>335908878
Jeez. I was looking forward to this.
>>335908878
Before everyone freaks out. They cancelled the project to work on a gameplay demo first. They'll restart it after the demo is ready.
>>335909394
they are gonna re-launch it when they have some game to show so it's been suspended for now
better than just having some vague concepts to sell i guess
>>335908878
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
They're suspending it until they have a gameplay demo to show. pretty admirable, really.
>>335908878

Don't let his "oh, your feedback made us realize we should've included it from the start" bullshit fool you. They knew they wouldn't get far without it but hoped they could save the money and get through on name recognition alone. It didn't work and i don't think they'll ever deliver a gameplay demo.

>>335908878
the concept is so boring
> guys its classic fps!
yeah which has been done to death
they need new gameplay ideas. this VR shit doesn't count, its just a setting change..
how to fix:
> make levels that feel like a series of connected playground arenas
> add skyline shit like bioshock but done right
> add grappling hook and wall jumping but done right
> make AI that is aggressive and knows how to flank, move and jump around the level
> actually give a shit about the plot, setting and visual style
> come up with new gun ideas
>>335909904
>yeah which has been done to death
It hasn't been done (properly) in so long that it's fresh again.

They definitely could have got 700k. Consider that Indivisible got nearly 2 mil and that had way less hype.
>>335910038
Just think of it as beating a dead horse back to life
>>335909904
Luckily genres in entertainment generally have such a short lifespan that you can remake/reboot/reimagine/recycle everything after a decade or two and present it a whole new audience that thinks it's a completely new thing.
Yes... They will repost after they've "created a demo".
And we'll never hear from them again.
>>335910196
They were able to use 60 days for the campaign due to indiegogo
WHO'S THE BITCH NOW, ROMERO?

>>335910275

>>335908878

>>335908878
>You asked for it, and you’re getting it: a gameplay demo of BLACKROOM.
>The team is at work on a demo which demonstrates the kind of gameplay, look and innovative, cool features that make BLACKROOM truly unique — the things we’ve waited years to put into an FPS and which make us incredibly excited about this game.
>There’s a hitch here, a hitch that’s making us do something that’s right for the game, the team, and the community: we’re pressing “PAUSE” on the fundraising campaign for BLACKROOM to complete this gameplay demo. Simply put, this will take more time than the Kickstarter has left, so we’ve decided to suspend the campaign and launch a new one when the gameplay demo is ready. We believe, however, it is the right choice. We know you do, too. Thanks to your feedback, we know we should have included it at launch.
I can respect this
>>335909814
>>335909708
>>335909841

>>335911604

>>335908878
>Blackroom reuinites Doom creators Romero and Cormack. To be clear, Adrian Carmack is not related to Doom co-creator and (also) id Software co-founder John D. Carmack.
So basically false advertising
>>335911610
4 days. They're cancelling it until they've got their playable demo done.
>>335911713
Nah they canceled it because they didn't hit the goal in the day it was announced or soon after, which indicates KS failure for a supposedly high profile project.
>>335911774
Adrian made all the art for Doom.
>>335911858

a large sweaty man approached me, cigar in hand, puffing smoke every which way
his name must have been john romero because he was yelling
JOHN ROMERO
JOHN ROMERO
>>335911774
not really
John Carmack was simply the programmer, who isn't really needed with the accessibility of modern video game engines
adrian carmack and john romero were the two of the very creative people at id who made doom great
notice how after all the creative people left id/got fired, quake 2 came out and that was bland and generic compared to previous games by id
I do wish people would stop crying about it being adrian carmack and not john carmack, it's really dumb and you really ought to kill yourselves

Romero just want to make the kickstarter camping with de Demo on it.
It similar when they release the demo of the first chapter of the first doom for free son the people wants to play the full game.
I want to believe

>I dont want to congratulate them for stopping now to do something they already should of done but hey this is relieving nonetheless
You really should, considering the modern industry almost never puts out a demo of their game.
You can actually tell if a game may be worth playing or not just by seeing if it has a demo.
>>335912894

>>335909473

>>335913395
Woah sorry bud, I forgot for a second there that I was supposed to be worshipping EA and Bethesda and the likes. Of course any game not sponsored by a big publisher like them is completely trash and I should have realized this. My mistake. From now on I promise I will only buy games on Origin since that's basically a seal of approval right? Thanks for setting me straight. Big publishers obviously know the games I want to play.
>>335913979

Their going back to their roots.
Like releasing doom 1 for free in its entirity.
Shareware was f2p back in the day for FUN before everything had to be monitized and micro macro transactions on mobiles and shit.
If this really is happening i fully welcome it.
>>335909874
>disobedient avocado
I'm disappointed it raised even that much.
>>335914953
Are you actually retarded or did you just never play Doom?
Only the first episode was free. Then when you finished it a screen popped up telling you to buy the rest. Romero was in it for money from the very beggining.
>>335913163
john carmack was THE quintessential code monkey, the man's smart as fuck but as he proved with rage it's getting a little tougher to make technological leaps and bounds the way he did with doom, which is probably why he got into the vr business
Contorted and twisted, honorable and valiant, heroism has many faces. In a time where hopes and dreams rest upon the mighty and the powerful, the energistic magic of the Priesthood continues to sap and destroy, leaving decay in its wake.
>>335914134
Well the downside to doing this is that they've effectively killed the hype train which is the PRIMARY driving force when it comes to kickstarter success. It doesn't matter how good or bad your game is, it only gets funded if the hype is there.
And secondly it makes them kinda look like they don't know what they are doing which is especially bad for romero. he needs to be trying to convince everyone he's on the ball this time around.
>>335914739
>muh evil publishers
There are tons of indie devs out there who make games first and then ask for your money. If you actually voted with your wallet and bought those games you might see more good games in the future.
Throwing money at failed devs who have been out of touch with the industry for a decade is not how good games are made.
>>335915256
did you play the doom levels he recently released? the man's still on the ball.
>>335915126
my bad i must have had the full game i remember getting the CD in 1999 and replaying the win95 edition over and over.
>>335915159
i imagine carmack was exactly like the codemonkeys out of silicone valley.
completely up themselves and thinks their work is the best everit wasand grandmas boy level autism.
Romero and the rest of the team seem really chill its nice they kept contact but we can read between the lines and see that carmack caused alot of problems post quake 1
we need a movie of this shit
http://www.develop-online.net/news/romero-delays-blackroom-kickstarter-to-finish-off-gameplay-demo/0219823
>A demo is already in the works, but isn’t due to be finished before the Kickstarter campaign ends. While Romero acknowledged that the team could “work around the clock” to do so, entering such levels of crunch is “not what we do”.
>Romero predicts that will take one to two months before the demo is ready, at which point the studio will relaunch the Kickstarter campaign with the same goal and reward structure. The team hopes to offer backers who return and pledge again a little something extra – “just as a thanks for sticking with us”.
>“We want to show off the Boxel UI and how that works in a fast-paced game, because that’s something a lot of people have been asking. We want to show things that are new about the game, the speed of it, and what we’re trying to get across. It should only take us a few months to bring all of that together. It won’t be a full level, but it will be enough gameplay to show off the speed and all the other things we’re talking about.”

7% royalties to use something as powerful as unreal 4 is an amazing trade off. I wouldn't feel bad for them, they can save an extreme amount of time by using it.
is this the biggest JUST of the year?
