Bullshit, because despite being the audiophile model, it's also the first model which is notorious for having the laser die, so you gotta fuck with the system like placing it diagonally or upside down to get it to read discs. They're also super common among the original models, so if you're paying more than $20 for it, you're getting ripped off

I was curious to test the quality for myself against my later model and the 1001 was always about 45-60 AUD compared to 30 AUD for a normal one. Might be different now or in other countries.
its a good cd player you can get for a low price on account of its age, due to its DAC. i think it applies to the 1001 models instead of the 1002.
I would get it as a CD player for novelty value, but my library of flac is good enough for me

When it was released the PS1 had a very good DAC for its price (plus you got a game console as well.) The myth that it has some legendary DAC worth thousands even today is just being pushed by audiophile morons and resellers trying to unload PS1s.
