Basically, XSeed had hired CF to do the localization, and the person who was in charge of it got massively behind for whatever reason and then released an edge-incarnate blogpost about how he tried to kill himself. XSeed had to take over the work themselves and that's a major reason why SC took so fucking long.
I'm pretty sure that CF isn't getting hired to localized 3rd, in fact I'd be surprised if they got hired for anything ever again.

With PrettyPrinny mod most of the technical issues are fixed. The only real problem are the crashes which start to happen when you start doing damage in the range of tens thousands and higher. If you plan just to finish main story, you wouldn't even notice it

Zestiria went very late into development under the impression they would have another branching path similar to Xillia 1, where you pick between Rose (a girl who can see spirits) and Alisha (someone who can't see spirits but wishes she could).
there is a point in Zestiria-- the point where you meet Rose-- that the game seems to shift its entire focus to her while Alisha is left out in the cold. To emphasize this, Alisha suddenly becomes detrimental to Sorey's health simply by being near him, leading her to be replaced by Rose.
alisha goes off to do nothing of importance (until her post-game DLC episode) while the party proceeds to slobber on Rose's knob about how cool and strong she is, and saying Alisha can't see spirits so she's no good. the game continues to sell Alisha's weapon as if she is supposed to be there, she just *isn't*.
my theory is that they definitely meant to have 2 paths, and the game was designed like this until very close to release, when they realized "oh shit, we don't have time to do both routes" so Baba had the game focus entirely on Rose's 'route'.

It's a bit rough around the edges and the story is basically fanfic tier, but it's made entertaining by the characters and the customization available for your character makes it pretty interesting to play.
I'd say look up a video or two about it to get an idea of how it plays. Only real sad part is the online is rather dead now, but all multiplayer available missions can be done solo.
