The first Fable. Ultimately the game was good, but holy fuck, given the interviews with Molyneux, we were all expecting the second coming of Christ.
He had his views of what the game would be in EGM and GI, and we all gobbled them up. It sounded like the ultimate RPG, an environment and character that would change and grow based on our every minute choice and action.
Didn't turn out that way at all. Still a fun game though.

Start as a multicellular organism and evolve over time into becoming an intelligent being that would go into space. So far, that's what spore is even now.
The difference is that the original plan for the game was far more ambitious, promising that everything you'd put on your creature and the place you put it would change it's abilities to interact with the world in some way in a manner way more fluid than the "choose your upgrade" that was in the final release.
Stuff like different eyes putting filters on the screen or underwater phases were cut entirely as well.
All in all, it went from a game of playing god to a game of... Playing god in a game that's not as good, I guess.

it's hard to say i liked it that much more. for a start it felt like a videogame where i was actually going around interesting places and doing cool things, rather than the terribly slow, blurry, smudgy half-baked, blocky, generic world full of copy-paste resources and tunnels, uninteresting NPCs and sidequests, insufferable inventory system that i gave up on after realising that all i was doing was giving my weapon a possible chance to maybe end combat 2% faster, meaningless dialogues, and probably a lot more that i've forgotten or wiped from my mind out of regret for playing it for so long.
this isn't to say that ME2 is a great game -- it's not, but it was certainly fun. i liked that interesting characters could die, rather than the annoying space redneck racist throwaway gays. despite that the entire plot had no bearing on ANYTHING, i certainly felt like my own actions had some consequence. yes there is nonsense, like everything cerberus, the reapers being fucked, the final god damn boss (honestly from memory i'd say ME1 had a far better final boss, even if it was less 'impressive'), a lot of the exploration, so on and so forth. the citadel was a grand part of ME1 and i'm really disappointed that it was virtually nonexistent in 2, as well as a lot of other zones, and the grand scale of planet-hopping is out (which is also a good thing because fuck me the mako was somehow even worse to control than shepard).
again this isn't even the final form of my criticism of ME, i just really don't think it's anywhere near as good as the 'muh space opera romance' people make it out to be.

I swear half of the posts in this thread are understandable and the other half are those that heard about a game or saw some extremely early footage and failed to actually check if it was the same game by the time it released.

I went PC when I saw how awesome steam sales could be, I didn't realize that recreating my xbox library is impossible because nothing fucking works.
Granted, it's not all bad. Mods and a $5 fallout 1/2/3/Tactics/vegas bundle was worth it. But games I really wanted to play like Dishonored and Overlord: Raising Hell just refuse to work without some absurd workarounds.
Not to mention no more hatemail on Dark Souls.
