Holy shit, this system is unintuitive.
I learned Civ5 and Age of Wonders combat just by playing, but I will have to read a guide to get whats happening here.
Protip: if I cant understand your combat system just by playing the game, its bad.
It's not a very straightforward game in any front.
The techtree alone is a mindfuck.
what is the best faction and why is it the broken lords?
KEYWORD BROKEN
You are just a bit retarded. It's not great combatno 4x game has good combatbut it's not complicated.
>>335899831
> if I cant understand your combat system just by playing the game, its bad.
Or maybe you are just pretty stupid?
>>335899831
No, I think you are just retarded. The combat system is trivial.
>>335900432
Sins of a solar empire has great combat.
>>335900736
It's also not really 4x, just an RTS that happens to last 12 hours per match.
>>335899831
It's not unintuitive at all, you're just stupid.
>>335900432
Stellaris is looking to have pretty good combat. You cant control the units but the fighting at least takes placed in real time, with enough depth to the units and customization to make it matter.
>>335899831
>this system is unintuitive
It's cinematic, not unintuitive.
WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED IN A TRADE AGREEMENT WITH 'INGLIN
>tfw the eternal general did not stand the test of time
>start playing as Drakken
>become a huge asshole
Everyone is fighting each other because I told them to do so. It's glorious.
> hexes
they just arent trying anymore
>>335901748
>2016
>still wanting squares
>>335901748
Hey, fuck you guy, hexes are the best development in 4X games.
>>335901748
Hexagons are objectively the best polygon. You cannot refute this.

yeah, the combat is only thing i hate about this game. wish i could skip it
>>335902625
>wish i could skip it
But you can autoresolve.
>>335899831
>Protip: if I cant understand your combat system just by playing the game, its bad.
agreed
>>335902752
because that's always a good option and never fucks you over by virtue of using it in the first place.
auto resolve is a meme.
>>335902981
It's a crutch for bad players.
>kazanji
How do i have fun in EL?
I feel like the AI never does anything
>>335902981
You being bad at video games is a meme.
>>335903649
>I feel like the AI never does anything
Did you play the broke ass 2 year old cracked version? AI rapes hard on everything above Hard.
actual endless legend player who bought all expansions here:
First, i bet the majority of "the combat sucks" babbies don't even now about initative order, alt-click force move and ctrl-click queue commands. If you arent a braindead retard you can make whatever you fucking want on the battlefield.
Second, autoresolve isnt a meme, and is used in two cases: when you have over 80% advantage, and when you are sure you are going to lose the fight real bad no matter what, as it sometimes can suprise you with decent outcome.
also picrelated best faction, nice and big city > dozen of village turds all over the map
>>335901069
We will rise again to build a general that conquerors all.
>>335903057
how when it doesn't get you anywhere?
>>335903975
by "village turds" i actualy meant typical fast expansion cities with no more than 5 districts
>>335904083
It's made for pic related. And it does help them get somewhere.
>>335900432
Yeah the combat isn't complicated. It's simply ass.
>>335903932
When i played hard i just conqured everyone left and right with no one trying to stop me.
>>335903975
>don't even now about initative order, alt-click force move and ctrl-click queue commands
To be fair, Amplitude is absolutely terrible about telling you hotkeys and stuff like that.
how do i stop being a slow piece of shit with the broken lards
>>335904343
>he can't roflstomp with Dosh Lords
Considergoing back to Civ.
What are the top priority sciences in each era?
i also suggest playing on "Fast" speed, the game is over by only 150 turns but it speeds up all productions and researches and makes each turn count.
>>335904432
Next question.
>>335904432
depends on who you are playing as and who you are playing against.
>>335903975
So tell me.
If I have multiple units with the same initiative score, can I choose which of them will act first, or will it always play out in the determined order at the top of the combat screen?
>>335901748
>Implying it isn't the only edge Civ 5 has over Civ 4
>>335904498
No, you didn't answer this one.
What are the noob trap techs, what are the god tier techs, what techs are key for X faction, on which turn am I expected to produce settlers, etc.
Explain yourself.
>>335905197
>on which turn am I expected to produce settlers
Every twenty turns.
>>335905197
>on which turn am I expected to produce settlers, etc.
On time to plant it on the 21 turn, eternal cycle.
Tech is way too complicated to be boiled down to a build order. But if you absolutely must know go watch your favourite lper scum and the I'll wreck you online to show you why it's retarded to rely on rigid research orders.
>>335899831
>Protip: if I cant understand your combat system just by playing the game, its bad.
Shit opinion by a casual. Also you're probably retarded if it didn't quickly became clear how it works.
In Endless Legend, do I need to have my city be on the coast to build coastal stuff, or do I just need to expand to there?
>>335905792
You can easily expand to the coast. Coastal cities aren't so great in this game.
>>335905961
>Coastal cities aren't so great in this game.
True. Endless Depths expansion when?
>>335905342
>>335905357
>20 turns
Whats the purpose of that? Every winter or what?
>>335906657
>Every winter or what?
Just after every Empire Plan.
>>335906657
>>335906801
Don't forget to use luxury ressources BEFORE you establish a new city!
>>335907035
And never pay the roving merchants to lift the market ban. They'll ban you again the next turn.
>>335906180
You never know, they made winter's something interesting to play with so we will probably get a seafaring faction/expansion as its the most complained about aspect of the game after the winters, maybe some terraforming too.
>>335907487
its also a good idea to never let them make borders with any empire as the dust will begin to flow.
>>335904279
>Best race
He's right You know? Will we ever see The Queen artwork or is she just this big monument in their City.
I just want a game as dark and cruel as SMAC again. Beyond Earth was no good. But SMAC just had genius writing and design overall so it will probably never happen.
you don't make settlers every XX turns, you make them when you can expand. Your first city purpose in many cases is to produce a fast settler and find a better spot as your starting spot more often than not sucks unless you play with some retarded tweaked world gen. So you make the first settler after founders memorial + whatever building you think you would need, sometimes if you have a decent starting spot with good industry and food you can make settler right after founders memorial. Expanding fast boosts your economy by a lot. For same reason expanding further is always good as long as you can maintain happiness level and your expansion is well positioned and you can defend it. Ofcourse this doesn't mean all you should do is make settlers and sewer systems, you need to boost cities infrastructures and military as well. In general everything in the game is situational and there is usually no direct braindead approach that works not even 100% but 50% of time.
Is Amplitude planning to release any more expansions to EL? I've had this game in my library for a while now but only started playing this last week and I'm surprised at how much I genuinely enjoy this.
>>335910292
Churning out a settler every twenty rounds is the ideal strategy, but yes, it pretty much depends on the situation. You shouldn't do it when you are conquering cities for example.
>>335910787
I Think they might transition entirely to ES2
>tfw when the sisters of mercy will never tie you up and dominate you to fulfill their own dirty desires
why live tbqh
>>335911220
Nuts. Well, how is Endless Space? I own that one too but never really got around to playing it.
>>335912041
bretty good. Very flavourful. Good soundtrack. Decent mechanics.
>>335912041
Great interface, but shallow and easy. No replay value.
>>335899831
It's not super complicated, the units have big ass arrows showing who they will try to attack, and they each get one attack or counterattack per round.
They even have little icons showing what type of unit they are and what their special abilities do.
At least try.
>>335912382
>no replay value
I agree that it's a bit basic after you get into it but it definitely has replay value.
i created a thread but maybe you guys can help
whats the best 4x game for playing one constant big ass round? I want to create a world and live it out.
please i have nothing else left
>>335912236
>>335912382
Aside from the FIDS system, what do Endless Space and Endless Legend have in common? Will it be easy to jump into one if you've played a good bit of the other?
>>335912956
The point of all 4X games is to win, and this does required to act, and go for it.
Games in the genre tend to drag on, but not as much as what you'd like.
>>335913803
Not him, but I like slower and longer games as well, not chasing after victory conditions, but just building and advancing an empire. I also dislike when you rush through science and everything changes so fast. Of course that is not fun in multiplayer.
>>335913082
ES has the same problem all space games run into, that of scale. Eventually every world/system becomes just a set of numbers and the game becomes a grind as you ignore the map in favour of the spreadsheets.
ES is also older than EL and it shows in the interface and mechanics. EL learned from its predecessor's mistakes.
>>335914164
is endless legend good for this? im the guy who asked the original question
>>335899831
Well, guess you're not a Paradox fan. Have fun with babby's first strategy gayme
>>335904279
Stream On, Tindalos and Amplitude all have issues with this kind of thing. Maybe it's a French thing.
>>335914164
>>335914653
I'd have to say no.
The era advances automatically when you research enough tech, pushing the game inevitably forward. Also winters grow harsher as the game goes on as the planet is supposed to be slowly self-destructing.
That said you can turn down all those mechanics to make the game slower.
>>335914653
Maybe. I just played the normal speed and most games finished around 300 rounds and the rounds itself don't last long if you don't fight all the time. But every faction is geared towards a specific type of victory, which often means accumulating something like science and money. If you want to win, it becomes a race for it.
Though I think it's fun to explore the map more than let's say Civ, because of the quests and the neutral factions.
