Since the very first in a series of demos appeared for the first game, the developers used the feedback to improve the game for it's release. Then they made two more versions of the original. Then they used a massive survey to take in improvements for the sequel. Then they used the feedback's from the sequel's demo to improve that and got increasingly more feedback before it's release. Then they released a patch after the game was released in Japan. IN ALL OF THESE TIMES, NOTHING WAS TAKEN OUT OF BRAVELY DEFAULT OR SECOND. (With the rare exception of some voice data in a Free to play version of the game. Yes, Bravely Default is F2P now in JP).
It seems awfully suspicious that they wouldn't release a patch for Japanese players if that was the case. There's no way, considering how they handled the bravely series to that point, that wouldn't have been a thing to do.

In the game, side quests have two asterisk holders in a disagreement. And the one you side against fights you and they get their job. The issue is that most of them have a pretty hard good and bad choice and are rather black and white, but if you want the job that good side has, you have to pick the "bad ending" and then other characters chastise you for it afterwards.
For example the thief and redmage have a disagreement about a magic water stone. The thief wants to set it back in its chamber so that the springs and oasises come back and all the poor people dying of thirst will survive.
The red mage wants it for himself because he needs it for massive amounts of water needed to MAYBE create this magic source of energy to help the world and it MIGHT blow up and destroy everything. And the only reason he needs the stone is because he's too stubborn to move his research to a watery place like florum and instead suggests all the poor people should move instead.
The thief is pretty clearly the 'moral' choice here but if you want the thief job then you have to fuck all the people over and they all tell you how awful you are for making their nation suffer. And this is AFTER the supposed 'censorship', the JP version was much worse than this.

Ignoring all the censorship shitposting here's my review so far, just got to chapter 4 (I think there's 5 chapters.)

Personally I'm enjoying it much more than BD. BD felt like it had one twist but then kept riding it way too hard where everyone was comically evil for little reason. Here characters have more depth to them for their motivations for being evil and side quests are much more interesting and fun, one was following along a murder mystery and another was being trapped in a caved in castle for days on end.
Tiz is much more likable now and not whiny, Edea feels to have grown a bit and not such a knucklehead, Yew is a scaredycat and kind of a book worm, and Magnolia is just okay but inoffensive.

Better than the first. Lots more QoL things added like being able to change encounter rate in the field, being able to save job set ups to favs, and the sound test generated money as you listen. Balance is much better with every job being somewhat useful and not as many crazy OP jobs. New gimmick, effects, and mechanics are all good. New dungeons and towns are really nice, slightly better than BD, reused dungeons are mainly relegated to side quests.

I have to admit though, censorship or not, some of the sidequests conclusions felt rushed (as in the character would fall unconscious and wake up to the story of how it all went down) but most of them tied up nicely.
Also they madeAlternisout to be a complete retard in his side quest, but awesome as part of the main story.
Combat is great, there is challenge and you can tweak a lot of setting to really suit your own style. the class system I am in love with as it gives so many choices and there are some pretty awesome ones.

The game is solid but it suffers from some bad design choices. I'll just talk about what i consider the bad shit. You have plenty of IGN reviews to fill you in the good stuff.
Personally speaking, what i found most boring were the so called "dungeon". They had nothing to do with being actual dungeons, they were goddamn labyrinths. Sure they can be fine for a while, but the whole game is just labyrinths over labyrinths and it gets dull and boring as fuck.
Another thing that i complain about a lot is the grinding because, well, it's easily exploitable. This can be either a good or a bad thing depending on how you take it. I didn't enjoy the fact that you could disable the spawn rate, go through a dungeon, and then just farm before the boss fight with the nearby save-buddy.
The overworld is kinda boring and there's nothing going for it, no secret areas, no interesdting items, no nothing. There is no incentive to exploring since all the items that you can find are just common shit you can buy in stores for the most part. Plus when you disable encounters it becomes just trivial moving from city to city, expecially when teleportation is a thing.
The battling system is hella fun, but, again, you can easily exploit it and make tough boss fights last not even 5 minutes. The "summon friend" thing can easily overpower the enemy boss if you get some overpowered summons. The special moves debuffs and buff chaining is basically what makes the boss fights so easy. Once i understood what to do, I stopped struggling (i played on hard). The challenge was brought down to 0.
It's a good game, but you can easily get bored and the challenge can be lackluster. That said, solid story, amazing protagonists, enjoyable class system and many other things will keep your interest going. Personally speaking, it's a solid 7\10.

Shitty meme, all that changes is that you dont have to replay every sidequest twice. The bad endings on sidequests weren't choice related, you would always get a bad ending on the first try. That and the difference in endings was minimal so you'd have to replay every quest 4 times to get 30 seconds difference

How are the sidequests in Second? I always get boring ones in RPG but Default had god tier ones that felt like they were part of the main story constantly to me. Best one being Thief to Time Mage quest. A shame Time Mage is shit.

1)Not really. Aside from changing the general location and the names, It's still basically the same game.While I personally would have preferred the original Japanese setting, It really doesn't bother me too much.
2) The games we got were basically remakes/remasters of the original Pocket Monsters RED/GREEN games, using the Pocket Monsters BLUE engine. Calling them censored is like saying SMT3 was censored just because we got the Maniax Edition version as our base game, rather than just getting the original release.
3) The real issue is that we didn't even get the "Real" Super Mario Bros. 2 (Known as SMB: The Lost Levels in the West) until much later. But yeah, I wouldnt call the game we got "censorship". I would call it a fucking copout.
