Granted voicing nameless king would have ruined his mystery but everything else was pretty bland.

What makes him so hard? I watched DSP lose to this guy like 40 + times and I never once seemed to understand the challenge.

He's got a shoulder tackle that comes out of nowhere that he combos into a round kick while you are still in the air.
Also he pulls out the round kick every time you try to strafe him. He's parryable though at least.

I beat him on my first try. He's really not that difficult.
The hardest boss in the game is definitely the Nameless King, and that's mostly because the fight with him feels longer due to the tedious albeit easy dragon phase. Pontiff is hard until you find out you can parry him.

They're similar in a way that both rain attacks on you relentlessly, but Gundyr does more damage and is harder to block, and has Manus style combos, you can't get out of if you eat the first attack. He also becomes more aggressive on phase 2, while Pontiff only does 1 attack at a time in tandem with his stand.

Combo attacks that lead into each other and takes most of your HP, he's also hard to heal against since he's so aggressive and have a massive wide reach

He's not really so hard a boss, but he's an enjoyable fight all around for vets. His air combo is hype as shit the first time he hits you with it out of the blue, and he really doesn't have any bullshit moves that feel unfair.
He's a fair test of how well you have adapted to DS3 mechanics since your last encounter with him.
