No normies fell for it because we knew you couldn't do actual games involving movement without getting motion sickness.

the smug ones with money will buy them for a few years, and that's about it. after that they'll stop giving a shit and the companies will stop making them except for flight sim autists.

GOOD GOD the lyrics are designed for you to kill yourself

We miss our own friends
in the sea of thought like a maze.
No praise or blame,
yet we're sometimes trapped in a daze.
In countless blisters,
walking on the maple floor
we've got to go through before.
The despair shuts the door.

I sing my song like everlasting notes.
When I feel that I'm lost,
I just keep my eyes closed.
Gone by the breeze,
I find that I'm on my feet.
Here I am to live my time.
Here I am to forge my mind.

Yes

In the 90's they hyped it up as the future of gaming, but it was impractical then, and it failed. And it is impractical now, and will fail again.

Even the motion control gimmicks of Wii, Kinect, etc, have already begun fading into obscurity

There's no point for this fucking stupid shit. Just provide a screen, and a controller. Quit trying to reinvent the wheel

Repetitive movement with no signal for change or variation. Yeah have fun with your muscle strain. Oh and eyestrain from forgetting to blink enough times. Monitors and motion controls come with enough drawbacks that still don't have concrete solutions. VR will only exacerbate them.

I bet you think flying cars are inevitable too.

Just because VR appears in science fiction, doesn't mean it will usher in an entertainment revolution IRL. In the real world you have to consider cost, practicality, market trends, etc.

I could see it being very useful in the mental health field (once it gets cheaper) but as far as media and video games are concerned, it's another gimmick.

Trains ran off of the idea of steam engines. Steam engines were around way before trains were a thing. VR in its current state is almost useless. Its really just a gimmick unless you have the room in your house to flail your body around like a retard just for videogames. It might be awesome one day but for now its stupid. The only people that actually buy into this shit are retarded corporate lap dogs that will guzzle down whatever fecal matter that they can get their grubby lips on. The only reason there are multiple companies trying to push VR so hard is because nobody wants to be caught off guard if there happens to be a huge demand for it.

The Lab, completely new experience/game made by Valve. Pretty good for an introduction to the device. Has all the casual first titles VR will introduce (Archery, catapulting (With portal cores), sight seeing etc. )

Windlands, an amazing athmosphere combined with a spider-man simulator gameplay. Works really well with Vive. This is the game that sealed the deal on VR for me.

EVE Valkyrie, adds an entire new dimension to cockpit fighting in space.

Lucky's Tale, combines a really good platforming game with VR mechanics

These are just from the top of my head but if you play if any one of these games you'd completely change your opinion on VR.

Sadly with VR watching a video of someone else playing doesn't even reflect the fraction of the experience you get by actually playing it yourself.

If you want more games you can check the steam catalogue:

No? but the input for consoles has remained basically the same for them for the past 20 years. The input for VR is essentially the same but with more movement and having it require more space to enjoy it fully. Until there are games FULL LENGTH games that people are going apeshit over that REQUIRE VR then its a shit meme.

Just because VR is stereotypically futuristic, doesn't mean it will actually define the future, and it doesn't matter how many times people use that fallacy. Flying cars are futuristic, but not even remotely practical for many reasons. Same thing with hoverboards (and there have been many groups taking advantage of the hoverboard meme to scam people out of their money). Our idea of the future and the actual future are very different things. VR will only prove itself through a variety of litmus tests, which it could very well fail. We don't have to prop it up just because of our preconceived notions.

Is it really though? What about first person shooters where you need to move way faster and perform faster and more accurate turns. I don't think you're going to be turning around and doing a 180 degree turn in your chair or standing up for that matter in the time it takes to do it with a mouse. You definitely won't be doing it with as much precision either.

VR dating sims will be pioneered by Sony, the West casual fags have been exposed to weeb culture through youtube celebs and steam.

Don't tell me that Sony VR won't capitalize on this, it will only take a console Love Plus + SquareEnix or Namco to do it. With the 2nd release Otome, while the original gets updates and they'll cash shop that shit for costumes.

I have my doubts about it succeeding this generation. It will be more likely to kick off on mobile since your average joe is more familiar with them and every mother and her unborn child has one.

It is not unfamiliar for people to buy flagship phones or get them on contract. Just like many people would spend a lot of money on their TV.

Cost aside, the biggest problem for PCVR right now is content. Most of the content looks subpar with a few mediocre titles in the mix I'd consider buying.

I'll reserve judgement until I get my hands on the vive next week god willing.
>>
>>335888026
Mobile VR is a different kind of thing. It's easier to get into, but you won't be able to play pretty games in VR with smartphones.

Lack of content is correct, but then again, it just released. There's always going to be a lot of indie titles built around VR that will be fun for a few hours.

I imagine future AAA games will come with native VR support for both the Vive and Rift, but will be completely playable without it.

I believe the walking around and interacting with objects thing is going to stay a gimmick. AAA games might have some little features for it (kind of like touchscreen controls on the 3DS for most of its games) but nothing really essential.

I wouldn't be surprised if Valve did something innovative with it though, they made SteamVR after all.

All in all: right now, VR is just there to enhance your immersion in vidya and it does a really good job at that. For me this is enough, I don't want to walk around my room and waggle around the place.

According to http://steamspy.com/app/250820
There is +- 10000 SteamVR users
Average ccu is around 100 people at the same time (in different games).

That makes it around 1% of overall population.
Now let's elevate it to a 80 000 000 number of "what if everyone had SVR". Assuming that a percentage would be the same, there would be 800 000 ccu, which is not that bad.
.
>>

No it isn't. The goal is the same and the methods by which it attempts to achieve its goal are largely the same: a visor strapped to the head and motion sensing controls.

You can blame it on the technology or software, but the real reason why VR always fails is because most people don't want to completely remove themselves from the outside world. It's a pipe dream.

I think VR will eventually be somewhat common, but it willl not be for another 5-10 years that we see the prices become more reasonable and the content / hardware reaching a point where people will actually pay for it. I think in the interrum it will be more the sort of thing you play with for a half hour at an amusement center with all the fun gimmicks like omni treadmills and whatnot that are too impractical for home use.

For VR to really catch on it'd take something like an Elder Scrolls game, and it would have to be an extremely smooth experience.

Most people like solitude. Not at all times of course, but having to deal with people every single hour of your life is hell on earth. VR lets people say fuck you to the world and go lay on a hawaii beach and watch a movie on a sky TV.

Honestly doesn't even need to be AAA, just something enjoyable with a meaty amount of content. Instead of nibble sized overglorified tech demos.

The games I enjoy the most and have the highest play time on monitor are in fact AA titles. AAAs are often just a flavor of the year that I get sick of after a short period of time.

The same way is with the need of cutting yourself from the world. We have books, now we have non-party games. VR is the next logical step.
>>
>>335878365
But the normies are the ones thinking it's a meme.
>>
>>335891406
I mean compared to traditional porn.

If I want to find a VR video of a very specific fetish or something, I might be lucky to find even one. Most of the ones I've seen just involve a woman entering the room, maybe doing a striptease, and then giving you a blowjob and/or riding your dick. I realize it's a limitation because of the nature of the filming, with the actress basically having to fuck a stationary camera, but I'm sure some directors can get more creative than that.

I saw a lesbian one wherein the actresses switched places partway through, so you could watch from each girl's perspective. It wasn't much but at least a step in the right direction.

The problem is nobody gives a shit about that. It's not and never was the problem.

It looks like you're there but it still doesn't feel like you're there. The whole concept of VR at the moment is doomed to the display equivalent of the uncanny valley where things seem real but there's also an awkward disconnect that just makes you feel uncomfortable.

And there's no clean way to fix that problem unless we do some serious holographics or neural implants. This generation of VR (and there's already been like 3 in the past) is yet another stillborn. Just because "dude it's the current year" doesn't mean this time it'll be different.

You still fail to comprehend. The execution is exactly the same. It's still just a visor strapped to your head with motion controls. The only things that have changed are the shapes of the visor and motion controls.

It's executed now the same way it was executed 20 years ago. The faster processors and slimming down of the technology hasn't changed that.

VR is a completely new field with completely new rules that we haven't even figured out. Devving for VR is almost completely different from devving regular games. Basic, general, overarching ideas and goals are the same but we don't know any of the smaller bits.

Games are like theatre plays, VR is like we just discovered moving pictures.

But go on, be afraid of change and be salty since your welfare doesn't bring in enough cash to buy a relatively cheap gadget.
