The difficult part is figuring out how to get the commands right through what seems like an endless trial and error period.

The game is just full of secrets, and most of them feel like they were made up by "that kid".

>you can obtain the ultimate weapon and armor by jumping in a bunch of invisible blocks in an obscure area

I always cheese the part with Below where you do the area just after fighting him, use the star in that cave to kill a shitton of lizards, reboot the game or sometihing which lets you go back to Below's fight with all the accumulated xp you got with the stars.

I swear I can get to max level in like 15 minutes of that and it's like halfway into the game.

Yeah, the star exploit is wonderful. You get the star, kill everything, level up, get in a fight and die. Upon restart you keep all your levels, but the star respawns. Rinse and repeat.
You can also perform some menu switcharoo with your characters to get one character to learn the spell from another. Mario RPG is a fun game to break.
>>
>>335879114
Got all but one of these fuckers on hard. God damn some of them require speed run tacties just to stand a chance.
>>
>>335880018
No, not at all. It's just that with the improved framerate or something, Wander kind of is more sensitive to colossus movement and tends to stumble a lot easier. It's barely noticeable when playing regularly, but going into the time trials and trying to use strats from the PS2 version, you'll probably fail because you need to be more precise.
Honestly though, the HD version is really good so I'd highly recommend it.

Why create interesting optional content when your player base is still strugling to complete the base game which has baby-tier difficulty, or you could just lock it behind paid DLC or Amiibo?

In general giving priority to good graphics, tacked on multiplayer, and blowing your budget in heavy marketing also influence these kind of things. Even the average consumer base has changed, since many get mad if there is some game mechanic that isn't thrown right at your face.

Some still care enough to put neat little secrets in their games, but they are a minority.

Devil May Cry can be a genuinely hard game which you have to beat by either mastering the game and learning the AI of all the enemies, or by cheesing the battles with certain attacks and weapons.

In this case I don't see the shame here.
Just search for people beating the bosses on DMD and you'll see that they are just cheesing them by spamming safe and broken attacks.

3 and 4 are an entirely different story though.
