Kreigers are WW1 trench warfare: The army. They're from an irradiated hellhole of a planet because half of the planet wanted to declare independence from the imperium, and the military leader at the time said 'fuck that' and nuked the planet. After that followed a 500 year crusade to take the planet back.
Krieg soldiers don't have names, they have serial codes. Krieg women are given fertility drugs so they can pump out more soldiers. Kriegers feel they as a whole planet have fucked up, and believe that only in dying for the emperor could their planet be seen as less of a fuck up. Their style of warfare is to siege the fuck out of the enemy and make it an even more grueling grinder of a war, while their demo corps and drilling machines prepare to unleach hell and firepower from below the enemy forces.

Kreigsmen kill themselves by the millions in attempt to pay off their perceived blood debt to the Emperor for their planet once rebelling against the Imperium. They are extremely hardcore, but also miserable little shits where the commissars and commanders have to actively strive to stop the suicidal bastards from killing themselves for no objective gain. They are practically only good for seiges, where you can cut them loose to soak up enemy bullets while advancing your lines in a tide of kreigsman blood drenching every meter.
The steel legion, by comparison, have been fighting orks for 3 wars now and holding successfully. They are professional ork hunters, damned useful against them or any other enemy, and while they are still just numbers on a logistics sheet, you can rely on them to at least die while achieving an objective like any true guardsman.

While they can and do make them, Tactical Dreadnought Armour is tremendously expensive, requires specialised training (it normally offers 360 degrees of vision and a Space Marine running in one is an exceptionnal feat) and each armour carries allegedly a very small part of the armour of the Emperor.
Only the best have the honour of wearing armour that can be stepped on by a Titan and survive.

Technically speaking gods do exist in the 40k lore, Gork and Mork do actually exist.
The chaos gods are all real tangible things, the Emperor was god and he was a real person, it makes sense that the Omnissiah was real too.

There's this thing called good gameplay. I love tactical shooters like Rainbow Six, Rainbow Six 3, SWAT 3 and 4, the original Ghost Recon, and more.
