I gained a strong hatred for Germany in civ and to this day, I still kill him the moment I meet him

I'm playing Civ 5 with my friends and I'm a total noob, this is probably my first time I've gotten to the medieval era.
I'm japan and I've conquered like 3 city states, which is pretty fun, but I'm losing like 13 gold a turn and I have 15 unhappiness. What should I do, I've sold a lot of units but I need to fight rebels so I can't sell them all

Build happiness buildings and manage your tile assignments better, work some food+gold tiles if you must and make sure all of your cities are connected by roads as well. Change your internal food trade routes to external gold routes
