More like he had to connect it due to Kanemaki's writing. She did the outline for the main scenario for Days, Nomura went and made sure it connected. The interviews for Days straight up say that the concept of a girl that would help Roxas decide to leave the org existed before that game and when they were development for Days they created her for that game and then combined her with that existing concept.
