Which was the best Onimusha game, /v/?
The one with Jean Reno in it.
>>335849790
the one with geralt

how could I have forgotten that?

Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny feat. Gogandantess

You posted it.

Onimusha HD Remake when? I know they aren't super related, but I hope Ni-Oh's popularity encourages them to release a HD collection or something
>>335852171
I don't recall it being a particularly unsuccessful series. Why did Capcom forget about it?
>>335853123
I guess same reason they killed MegaMan and everything else everyone holds dear.
Capcom is essentially a MonHun company only nowadays, which sucks. I want my Onimusha 3, I used to think Jean Reno was the coolest motherfucker on earth.
Samurai's Destiny, no competition.

>>335849790
the third one, fucking based story begin, middle and ending. wish there's a 2016 remake with modern tech and engine.
Genma>3>2>4>1
>>335853610
never heard of genma, genji yes.
>>335853683
xbox port of 1
>>335853453
Nigga he still is!
Hardly recognized him in that movie with Simon Pegg though.
SAMANOSUKE OR JACQUES?
>>335849790
Nioh
>>335853898
Jacques all the way buddy. The whole "foreigner in ancient japan" made my dick rock hard, it was the fucking best.
>>335853863
He was in a movie with Simon Pegg? Which one?
Blade Warriors
>>335852171
Samonosuke is based a real guy and obviously Jean Reno is real so there are probably likeness rights issues stopping a rerelease
>>335852171
They said a while back that they won't ever reissue/remaster the Onimusha games due to two things
a) The series gradually got less and less popular over time
b) They'd have to renegotiate the extremely expensive royalties contracts with Kaneshiro, the estate of the dude who Jubei was based on (I can't remember his name off the top of my head, but it's the guy who played the villain in Ridley Scott's Black Rain) and Reno for use of their likenesses
So basically, it's just not economically viable enough to be worth their time.
That said, I don't know if this is related or not (Though I wouldn't be surprised), after Nioh was re-unveiled last year and people were getting excited and drawing up Onimusha comparisons, Capcom said in a press release that they're be "open to the idea" of making a new Onimusha.

Fuck why can't we just live in simpler times. This is why indies thrive.

>actually enjoying Onimusha "Free Instant Kills" 2
>>335854502
Plus Kaneshiro's a bigger deal now than he was in the early 2000s, so he'd probably demand even more money now than he did then.

What wrong with 2
Isn't nioh a spiritual successor to onimusha?
2
>>335855571
Nah. There's definitely some influence in there (TN openly said that Onimusha 2 was an inspiration), but it's too different on the whole to be a spiritual successor.
>>335855571
Maybe looks wise, but otherwise completely different.
>>335854221
That sounds like a fucking ridiculous amount of red tape.
>>335854221
Onimusha has always been a really expensive series to develop.
Also, wasn't Yusaku Matsuda dead long before Onimusha 2 even came out?
>>335853771
>>335854157
I've never played Genma. What are the biggest diffetences between that and the original? Improved graphics?
Genma Onimusha was the hardest but the most dated
Onimusha 2 had the best gameplay but the cheesiest story and a literal who not Samanosuke
Onimusha 3 had the best story, best opening in the history of video games, best Samanosuke, Jean fucking Reno (albeit the first 10 minutes but still playable Jean Reno), but the gameplay was the easiestit also had that qt trap Ranmaru.
Didn't play 4 because no Samanosuke but I hear its a mixed bag between excellent and dogshit

More content and Green Souls.
>>335855910
He was, he was extremely ill during the filming of Black Rain and died shortly aftewards (He put in a fucking sensational performance, regardless. Stole the show from Michael Douglas completely), but I remember reading an interview with Inafune circa 2002 in an issue of Edge where he was talking about negotiating the contract for his likeness with his widow and how pleasant she was to deal with.

Some new gear, a new mechanic with a green orb that'll temporarily make enemies invincible (Which was never implemented in future instalments, sadly) and a Nemesis-style boss that'll chase you through parts of the game.
>>335856332
> a new mechanic with a green orb that'll temporarily make enemies invincible (Which was never implemented in future instalments, sadly)
What would be the point of such a mechanic? I get need for more challenge but wouldn't that render fighting enemies pointless?
>>335855554
It does its job too well. Cinematic gaming will always be hated when it does what it's supposed to.
>>335849790

Nightmares.

>there are people on this board RIGHT NOW that don't realize Onimusha 2 is objectively the best in the series
Disdain for plebs
2 is and always will be my favorite of them all.
This is going to be incredibly unpopular, but 4
I never felt like the first 3 Onimusha games were especially great. We had Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden to play, and Onimusha was decidedly worse.
taking that decent gameplay and applying it to a fully co-op action RPG was a great decision and made for a really fun game.

>because no SamanosukeHe is in the game
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jum_fjDNC7k
I love the bgm and how you get back to the beginning and get to finish your first fight in the 3rd game.
Unfortunately Capcom killed the series by making DMC, which they‘ve also managed to kill it with some dumb "innovations"
Jubei a CUTE!
>>335849790
1 is the best by virtue of having Kaede alone. To this day, she still makes my dick diamonds.
