Because barely any indie game was released, they're all still in fucking early access.

What the fuck are you on about? SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years.

But I still load it up once in a while to play it to decompress.
It's also incredibly fun to play when high.
Also the story was pretty neat and avant garde. I liked it a lot.
>>335849310
>when high.
The original Superhot they made for the 7dayfps competition was brought up fairly often on /v/ and I had never seen anyone say anything negative about it. Why are so many people calling it shit now?

They've already been released then.
As soon as people are able to pay to play a game, the game has been released. Bumping the version number to 1.0 later doesn't change that.
>>335848925
Gas Guzzlers Extreme. It's shallow as all fuck but fun.
>>335847776
The only thing bad about it was the short length in comparison to the price. It's a shooter that actually does something innovative so I can't really hate on it.
>>335850030
>Because they charged money for it
>Because it's only 2 hours long
>Because it's made in Unity
>Because it's a low poly game with no textures yet gets terrible performance

>>335851379
Then you have a piece of shit build my dude, sorry you went with the prebuilt meme lmao.
Also, that's not a meme, nor is it marketing. It's an In Joke. If someone were to play the game and like it, when they're asked about it, they'll probably refer to that phrase, and when their friend plays it, they'll get it, and it'll be more then just the initial recommendation. It's a perpetuation of the games theme, which like it or not, is intentionally breaking the 4th wall to involve the audience, and capitalizing on the hype of vr.
This isn't even the first example of something like this happening jeez.
>>335848968
>that pretentious storyline

>>335850030
It's bad irl, no need to imagine.
>>335851815
>I didn't like it therefore I'm pretentious
>I'm also a retard that doesn't understand the basics of storytelling or theme
This thread has only convinced me more so that /v/ is the youngest and most autistic board, and there's a board for dudes who watch colorful ponies get into hi-jinks meant to teach little girls
>>335851682
Whether something is originally intended to be satirical has no bearing in whether or not it can be memed. There wasn't a single Superhot thread that didn't start with "It's the most innovative shooter I've played in years" in the OP for at least a monthI don't disagree with you, I just copypasted all the arguments I see made against the game. Funny that none of them have to do with the gameplay.
>>335851996
>tried to cover a "deep and meaningful" theme and bungled it hilariously like amateurs
The definition of pretentious.
>>335851809
>Then you have a piece of shit build my dude, sorry you went with the prebuilt meme lmao.
Wrong and wrong.
You can go to the steam discussion page and see a bunch of people with decent builds having those issues. Just because you weren't one of those people doesn't mean that it didn't happen
>>335852172
Explain to me how they bungled it. It was literally so cut and dry simple I can't understand how you think they blundered it. It's literally a combination of "Curiosity killed the Cat" and the sci-fi trope of corporations doing shady shit with new tech to control and eliminate people they don't like. They kept it simple, and didn't try to bloat the game with more information, going for a simple yet effective motif.
>>335847776
Hyper Light Drifter was fucking trash
>>335851008
Shut up, Noodles
>>335852331
Only thing I've seen is people complaining over the price tag, which is honestly a contention I agree with. As much as I enjoyed the game and will continue to enjoy the game a nice break between other games, it's a little barebones gameplay wise for the pricetag. If the game was 10 dollars, I think it'd make a lot of people feel a lot better about the game as a whole.
>>335847776
It costs too much but I've beaten every challenge mode and red times except for the real time timer one. It needed more levels, but I liked the mechanics enough to keep playing. Half the challenges didn't really add anything while the other half made it somewhat harder.
What really sucked was the """"""""""''story""""""""""'' and """"""""""''themes""""""""""''. I couldn't wait for the forced typing or seeing yourself or rebel group stealing you from an evil training program to use you for good nonsense. I just wanted to shoot more red guys. Body swapping was underutilized. For whatever reason I have no real desire to play the 'endless' mode because it doesn't really seem as puzzle-like.
>>335852443
Having forced typing sections that interrupt gameplay and destroy immersion and the little jail while the narrator pops words at you while gloating.
Taking away control from the player is the easiest thing for a developer to do and it's not interesting or clever anymore.
A lot of games these days try to play the "your fault for playing the game" schtick.
And then even after all this straight faced buildup the red-text developer cuts in with "It was all a joke guys, thanks for playing our INNOVATIVE game, tell your friends", that doesn't engender credibility with me.
>>335852331
>You can go to the steam discussion page and see a bunch of people with decent builds having those issues. Just because you weren't one of those people doesn't mean that it didn't happen
Just because there is a place where people debate about the flatness of Earth, doesn't mean it is flat.
>>335851379
>mfw I had to play this in 600x400 on my 2014 laptop to get a good fps
>>335853036
So you're saying all those people whose computers were having issues running the game were making factually unfounded claims about their computers having issues running the game? That every single one of them was lying about it?
>>335848925
Literally /v/'s mantra
>>335853029
Have you ever heard of juxtaposition? If the game just continued to throw the combat at you without a single break, you'd get bored and take the break yourself, and you'd have no drive to keep playing. Honestly I'd imagine you probably played the entire story in one sitting right? If not say I'm wrong but do hear me out on this. When the game pulls you out to those typing sections it forces you to slow down and relax, and it makes you eager and even a little annoyed. You want more of the game and you want to get moving into the game again. So you try to quickly mash through the chats and stuff, but you're likely still reading it because it's so short. It's like edging you basically. Plenty of movies employ this type of technique, but the most normie example would be reservoir dogs and the scene before mr. blonde torches the cop.
And the game never takes away control, at least not in a literal sense. It "locks" you out of the game the one time, but that's only for purpose of the story.
Here's the scene for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0Wz59jc7lI
>>335847776
I want to say Firewatch (which isn't a game anyway) but I still kind of enjoyed it until the last hour or so where everything went to shit. Superhot was shit right out of the gate.
>>335847776
It was good, only overpriced.
>>335849969
CROTCH
>>335849125
Nuclear Throne is good, it's not bad, but holy fuck the Devs are not competent to keep it alive any longer, there's still bugs, they delayed the PS4 patch for FOUR months, and can't figure out what "balance" is (LOOKING AT THE ENERGY SWORD + LASER BRAIN SYNERGY), shit I bet they focus more on making new games than polishing a game that had the potential to make more sales.
>4:3 resolution lock because the SJW dev said "the game isn't fair if you're focusing on the width of your screen"
>capped at 30 FPS because their intention was to make a shitty game
>>335853029
>Having forced typing sections that interrupt gameplay and destroy immersion
>muh immersion
>It was all a joke guys
You're taking the game a little too seriously.
>steam store
>new releases
Sometimes me and my friends browse through the pile of indie garbage that flows into steam daily and will laugh our asses off
I thought it was fun. I don't play many indie games (maybe like 2 a year), so I couldn't argue with your assertion that there haven't been any worse ones recently.
I probably wouldn't play it again but it was certainly a novel concept. It kinda reminded me of Hotline Miami, although I'd much rather play that game instead.
