Just set yourself to "offline". And I don't mean offline mode, just go to you and press offline.

Neither does BattleNet. It's so ridiculous how hard it is to implement an invisible mode for these platforms.
>>
>>335833926
same exact problem anon

I don't know what this guy wants. We played on a tf2 server a few times 2 years ago. I stopped playing tf2 and I haven't played a game with him in over a year. I think he's autistic.
>>
Just fucking remove them if you dont want to talk to them.

Are people on this site really so spineless that they can't remove someone from their friends-list for fear of hurting their feelings
>>
>>335833926
Why not just remove the ones that you don't want to talk to?
>>
>>335834105

An invisible mode would go against the always on, always social intent of these chat networks though. Their answer to wanting to hide from people is "don't add people you want to hide from".

Which, admittedly, is a good bit of advice.

I have disabled message notifications entirely a while ago (sound, pop-up, and taskbar flashing)

Takes me a while to notice that someone messaged me sometimes, but most of the time they take half an hour to respond back anyway, so it's not that big of a deal
>>
>>335831956
I have a couple of guys I play with on weekends, but we don't really have a set get together time. I usually get things kick started by messaging all of them and asking if they're interested in playing later (usually in around an hour or so) and then sit on mumble and wait until they come on. it gives everyone enough time to finish what they're doing and be ready to play with other people, or say they're busy and give a later time, or date. Is that weird since I'm always the guy who gets us away from single player games and onto mp?

Not really, it just means I tend to play a lot of RPGs and strategy games, mostly turn based. Brief pausing usually isn't an issue, only recent game where it mildly was was Dark Souls 3 and even then I was only invaded twice and that's the only time shit happens without you controlling it.

I know a guy like this, the weird thing is he only does it if it's a game he hates and he always goes through the same pattern with it. He always seems to assume that I'll think it's shit too, and when I say that I like it he'll start listing off all the things he doesn't like about it and expects me to agree, like I'm going go "You know what? You're right, this game IS shit!" and stop playing.

The weird thing is that he never gets angry about it, he just calmly, casually explains why the game is shit.

The counterpoint to this is the awful heartwrenching pain of playing co-op with someone going dramatically slower than you. It's bad for everyone involved if you aren't both moving at roughly equal speed.

I've slowed down on my garbage buying dramatically (Skip most bundles now except for ones with games I genuinely want, skipping most games that just look vaguely interesting, etc) but the two biggest tips I can provide regarding Steam obesity are this.

#1: If you know the name of whatever you're looking for, you don't even need to click in to the search box. Just click in the library listing and start typing. It'll move the selected game to whatever you're typing up.

#2: If you want to keep being fat, install and uninstall games wildly. Load up some random garbage you've never played, play for half an hour and see what you think. If you wanna keep going, great, if not uninstall and move to the next. Both broadens your vidya horizons and occasionally you bump in to gems.

If you're that tired of getting greeted by that one friend whenever you start up a game, why don't you just remove them?
Honestly, you don't enjoy their company so why don't you just remove them from your friends list and keep the people that don't bug you?

Why is it so bothersome for people to message you once when you're playing vidya anyway? I despise social contact just as much as every anon on /v/ does, but easy-going conversations with other people on steam is fairly nice.

or do you faggots secretly like getting messaged as soon as you boot up a game because you all crave attention

Why does it like some of you want (hey)'s when you launch a game? It's not like when you meet a person at the store, you are there all the time and a conversation is only a couple of taps on the keyboard away. It's not like launching a game validates talking to someone. Seriously, if i were to greet everyone that launched a game i would be stuck in conversation all the time, and i only have 20 something friends.

Yes. Which means shift-tabbing for chat and web browser which is nice if the game doesn't handle alt-tabbing well.
>>
>>335839397
What actually happens is it sets you to offline in both the friends list and your profile. However, the times won't match up exactly, making it pretty obvious. This also happens when the servers restart every Tuesday though.

So for example if you go offline it might say Offline 1 min ago in your friends list but if they go to your profile it might say Offline 5 hours ago.

Yes, the overlay works.
I like to use it to handle screenshots with steam, can reach chat in any game, sometimes to open wikis and shit in the steam browser without alt tabbing (mostly because that would often lead me to browse this shithole) and generally - I like displaying what I'm playing, maybe someone will get interested, or want to talk/ask about it, or play it himself.

I'm here bro.
I just want a big list of friends who do their own thing, and if I see them play something I would like to I could follow/join them.

If I play something its either just one game for weeks, or jumping around between shit every 10 minutes.

Only people talk to me twice or thrice per week. They never say Hi or Hello. They directly send links with images or say something witty then our conversation begin. Even if we dont say a word for 1-2 hours we continue messaging each other like "hey mind if I stream <game> and you watch me play? I wonder what am doing wrong unsure if you can help me" or "btw have you played this or that game?"

I can see that he logs on, which should be enough. It's not like we are 14 year old little girls throwing hissy fits and getting angry at people we don't talk to.

I don't even play my steam games anymore because I've grown out of multiplayer games, the only one I play is singleplayer only. My concern is t them inviting me to play something regularly and I refuse everytime.
