No. It's an original story about a curse going around at a bording school. The camera obscura isn't featured as heavily as one might expect but I think it's for the better, otherwise we could've gotten something as silly as the fps-scene from Doom.
It reminded me a lot of the j-horror classics like Ringu, Ju-On and Dark Water, just with kind of a focus on photographs.
