I wish there was a new mimic gimmic in DaS3. The mimics were a surprise in DaS1 because nobody knew about them. But now that everyone has played that, they've gained meme status and everyone knows to attack every chest and look out for them right from the get-go. And the fact that there are more mimics than actual chests also means people are never going to forget to inspect each chest. It'd be different if it were only a handful, because then you it might slip your mind.

So whenever I see another chest, I just say "oh boy here we go again..." and it's fucking nothing.

There should've been a new trick. For example, an enemy that's disguised as a door, and you get absolutely raped when you open it and it's actually a monster's mouth or something along those lines. Same concept as the mimic, but a different disguise so that players get tricked again.

IT's pretty linear and has nice graphics but moves, enemies and ambience got kinda stale. I thought we would dwelve in fantasy horror and it's much more tame than BB.

The only effecive Mimic in any Souls game is the first one that kills you, after that you just check every chest for the chain or attack it.

The first mimic in DS1 was great because you opened many normal chests before and should have known better because its in Sens funhouse and sorrounded by blood in the middle of the room.

The first chest most people will find in DS3 is a mimic, which shouldnt hurt veterans - and its much less fair for first timers. From then on its just annoying to kill all the mimics, they serve no real purpose anymore.

Not only are there a ridiculous amount of mimics, they're designed like total joke enemies except they hit harder than Black Knights. And this is the same throughout the game, so it must have been a nasty surprise for any new player who found one of the earliest chests in the game.

DaS3 probably has my favorite level design within each level. The levels are so dense with looping pathways and they just feel so large and fleshed out.

But I would've preferred if they truly interlocked like the metroid-style design of DaS1.

DaS2 had the worst level design by far though. It was both linear AND each individual level was also quite empty and bland, for the most part.

I just wish they went back to having no bonfire warps. They're a crutch the developers use so that they don't need to worry about interlocking level design. When you play DaS1, you get such a deep appreciation of the level design, because you're constantly charting out where you're going to go and how you're going to get there, and you actually learn to remember the layout of every square inch of the game. But it's different when you can just warp to any bonfire at any point in the game. You never need to go back through anywhere. And in DaS3's case, it meant there was much less choice in what order you were going to complete things.

Not after your first mimic it real doesn't matter how many you put in because you can always tell wether or not it isn't. There is no surprise once you look at a chain and can tell every chest apart. Anyway I don't think anyone one on here is that oblivious to the tricks of knowing which is which. The enemies are great. Weapon movesets feel pretty lame though.

My problem with the world is that they connected them for no reason. Try to convince me that connecting these linear paths with no shortcuts connecting each other was absolutely necessary. The Firelink Shrine should have been straight up the Nexus. Now there's some areas in the game that I'll never return to because they only serve to connect one end of an area to the beginning of another.

Traps and chest destruction were a good idea in DaS 2. It provides a risk to opening a chest and checking for mimics for those who don't know about the chain. It was a step in the right direction really.
DaS 3 took steps back in that department and just placed mimics whatever the fuck they wanted and it's just tedious and not surprising every time. They've run out of creative ideas.

They breath and the chain is different. You don't even need to attack the chests because it's really obvious which is which just from looking.

That's not even the point here. The issue is that when you have more mimics in the game than you have regular chests, it's not exactly surprising, or interesting.

Even worse is that all of the mimics are always in fixed positions. They should have the same chests, but have every playthrough randomize which chest becomes a mimic. That would actually be interesting.

Why doesn't anyone seem to notice the chain pattern that is a dead giveaway for a mimic. You can also throw a Undead hunter charm to make them sleep and grab the item if you don't want to fight them or still unsure if the chest is a mimic

farron watchdogs i still get but its active at 30

invasions are mostly ganking bullshit but at least 35-40% of the time it's fair
(as in 2v1 but you have npcs to help you)

Correct, but they're not thrown at you in the absurd numbers that DS3 does it where you actually expect a chest to be a mimic when you test it instead of testing it to be safe.
