Well he release e1m8b and e1m4b and is basically bringing back classic FPS. If he would be a fraud or a hack he wouldn't know how to put stuff together to make it work and basically his work for Doom was a happy mistake. Not the case.

Are we on day 3 now? STILL not even at 150k? It didn't start off with a lot of backers and it's slowed down as all kickstarters do. I don't think this game is going to get funded. It will be interesting to see what he says and does afterwards.

He doesn't need the codemonkey Carmack since Codemonkey Carmack only did the engine and nothing else, Romero already has an engine in form of UE4 which is very well optimized and looks amazing to boot.
Romero was also responsible for plenty of the levels in DOOM 1 and 2 and guess what he's doing here, that's right - Level Design.
He's not the Producer, he already said he has an actual producer this time around to keep him and rest of the team in check so a second Daikatana doesn't happen, he admitted that he is shitty with management and that's why he got actual people for that role this time around while he sticks to level design.
He also said that the 700k is needed for their investor and publisher to give them the millions (yes, he used the word millions) needed to make the game as that was their publisher's term.
He flat out said the game won't happen at all unless they get the 700k to prove to their investor and publisher that there's an interest.

Circle strafing is possible in pretty much every FPS anon.
Strafe jumping is just a matter of configuring physics, UT4 doesn't have strafe jumping but it does have air control and it's movement mechanics do allow you to go fast once you master the movement.
