It's probably simpler to make games for one scalable platform that can be used at home and on the go then it is to develop software for two platforms all the time.
Hybrid console isn't such a bad idea. They've already been fiddling about with cross-play. A unified library would bring a constant source of strong titles. That first year drought really hits them hard now.
Software sales is where Nintendo makes the money in the long-run. (Sure they aim to profit from hardware but they've had to make sacrifices recently in that area to get the 3DS and WiiU to have an actual user base. People seem to forget how poor the 3DS's first year was. They were literally giving games away to keep people interested. Same with the WiiU too with MK8).

Hybrid is a bad idea. How would it even work? would you plug it into your television using an hdmi cable? Would you insert the handheld into a set top box? What about USB slots? Where would you insert the games? How would local multiplayer work? Would one person play on the handheld and everybody else would be using different controllers? Plus the graphics would be gimped because it's a handheld. and split screen would probably be too taxing too. It's a shit idea and doesn't make ANY sense. It would just be a convoluted mess
From everything nintendo has said, it seems painfully obvious the next handheld and home consoles will just share the same OS and they'll run all the same games at different graphical settings. But they'll still be separate devices
