Nothing. They streamlined DRM, and don't act like that's a bad thing since every game was getting their own DRM anyway. They made some excellent games. Their online store and platform are easy to use. All their stupid gambling shit is completely optional. They allow refunds now. They provide a platform for indie games to be shit out like Chipotle induced diarrhea.

They revolutionized digital distribution and cosmetic micro-transactions, then realized they could make boatloads more money focusing on that instead of developing games.
CSGO and DotA 2 are the best games in their respective genres so it isn't like they totally fell off as a developer , just don't expect HL3 to ever happen.

Valve has this stupid "work on whatever you want" corporate culture. In theory it would mean that people pursue projects they feel impassioned about, but in reality it's just cliquey high school lunchroom where different factions wait for opportunities to tear down unconventional ideas. Nothing gets done because there's too much pride at risk if it's not perfect.
