Have you ever played a game purely for the setting?
Pic related. I love the Himalayan setting with all the Indian and Nepali folklore, but the game itself fucking sucks.
i didn't think the game sucked. i mean the story was annoying crap and i skipped all the tedious amount of cutscenes but the gunplay was good and i liked sneaking around the bases fighting enemies.

I guess. It just had a really bad habit of throwing a gorillion enemies at you and never giving you a chance to do the annoyingly slow heal animation.
Far cry 2. I wanted an african bush war setting with jungles, savannahs, without any modern warfare spec ips shit, just an AK and 3rd world tech.
Good thing the game was fucking awesome.

I wanted to like it, I loved far cry 3 (at the time atleast, who knows now) so this basically just seemed bigger and better in everyway.
But for some reason, it just didn't have that same whatever the fuck it was in Far Cry 3 and after the first 3 hours become just a chore to play desu.

I get why, but I thought it was the best part. Infinite madness, operating after operating after operating, swapping out weapons when they degraded gave you an opportunity to try new strategies, go loud, go hot, agressive stealth, ghost the place...
You had to play to it's strengths, that's for sure, but when you did there was a bunch of fun to be had. Get mods that up the damage for you and the enemy, and the mod that gets rid of the consolized recoil-reset so that you can actually control your shots and it's a god damn hoot.

The game was passable. Better than 3, at least.
Stealthing your way through outposts without alerting games was fun as heck, and the setting really is good, the himalayas was a perfect call. I just hope that the next Far Cry can top it and keep improving on the formula.
Maybe Dying Light because I really like zombie survival and the traversal options but the combat is shit.
