The combat in game was fuckign awful, it was like Asscreed 1 but completely unoptimized, later on they released massive patch that kind of fixed something, but by that time most of the people gave up on this game and the series

Worst fucking part you have to rewatch the entire fucking cut scene all the way back to jumping down the cliff in to the pit, then proceed to chop his limbs for 15m, then you ware suppose to climb up on some fallen bridge and use something you had never heard of or had any idea what it was so you would run towards the MArlboro monster to hit him and get like one shotted then you would have to DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN, no option to switch difficulty to fuckign casual and breeze through this bullshit just dude lmao gitgud go read manual or play the first game to know whats up, after dying like 9 times in a row and fasting 3 hrs I uninstalled the game and never touched it again, kidna sad I got shilled into pre-oreding that hunk of shit, not to mention you can't create your own character at all you have you play Polish marry sue sephiroph that is alaso a suffering artist

I tried everything to get better stats and ran out of money, so it was either do quests or run around the city
I had equipped all the best stuff available to me, and since the fucking swordsman magician and the other path is fucking nonsensely locked i had to level up useless shit, specially dagger throwing
Even with that enemies killed me in 4 hits and they died in 10

Because playing as a fixed character is also part of a rpg experience, I'm not saying all games with fixed characters are rpg's. The Witcher is an action rpg because it has elements of role playing games like choices and skills.
Imagine if the DM gave you a fixed character with rich backstory and you have to roleplay as him. I wouldn't mind playing as the character if he was well written like in the Witcher games.

The witcher 2 is the worst in the series, but it's still pretty good. As you get into the game you'll realize that the shield sign is the only magic spell worth using with a sword, whereas pure magic builds still have to occasionally use swords as well while their adrenaline regens.
I'm sure it's much more enjoyable if you've played the first, since 30% of witcher games are about the characters and story.
Witcher 2 reminded me why bloom effects were rightfully abandoned.
