Yes, FC3 is a decent start, and A-10C is definitely a rough 'first-start' module. It's great, mind you, just might not be suited for first-time players. If you can read and multi-task, though, you'll have a fun time.

DCS has a game mode but it's fairly realistic in some regards, depending on plane. It's regarded as a good place to start though. Yes you can use a DS4 in place of a stick or HOTAS setup, we have a guy in the sim general who plays with a DS4 controller.

Not really too bad off with A-10C, since it's mostly sensor-based, like with the TGP is basically a camera. Flying, though, you will have a bad time. Once you fly where you're going, you can probably get away with a mouse desu

The one flight sim I tried to play was Falcon BMS and I couldn't even figure out how to target the enemy or how to take off/land the plane even with tutorials. They're not for me.
I would love to get into it but DCS world really lacks good solo missions. The briefing interface is terrible
