They did have that DS game as their last project which kinda looked like a painting to match the time period Goemon takes place in. It was never localized and the Ganbare team fired the day after release so the employees made a new company.

This. I had to fork out for an N64 flashcard in the end. Worth the money though, but I still don't get why N64 emulation is still so behind when it comes to anything that isn't Mario 64 or OoT.

There was a PS2 game with semi-cel shading style, but it wasn't the same as the classic Goemon games. It wasn't as bad as the "NEw Generation" Goemon, but it was weird, and supposedly it isn't that good of a game.
Working Designs almost localized it but they got cucked by Sony or something.

>>335791061
Yeah the DS game, the last Goemon game before Goemon Team left Konami, was actually amazing. A truly good swan song for the franchise.

And while not the same style of game, the N64 did have a second Goemon game, Goemon's Great Adventure, which went back to the classic sidescrolling action and it's arguably the best Goemon game ever.

It's great. Also have in mind Mystical Ninja starring Goemon came out in Japan before both Ocarina of Time and Megaman Legends, it's one of the very first 3D adventure games, and IMO it's better than the other two, or about as good.
>>
>>335791887
Arguably the best 3D platformer ever made and easily a 10/10 masterpiece. Especially if you didn't play the other mystical ninja and everything's new.
>>
>>335791887
It's pretty fun, it's always been one of my favorite N64 games.

It's full of wacky Japanese shit and awesome music.

I highly recommend it.
>>
>>335792092

It requires moon actually, but with a bit of patience, I think you can figure things out. There must also be some english guide online, I suppose.
The music is fantastic as always, although a lot are rearranged tracks from previous games.

Great Adventure is my favorite N64 game. Everything about is so perfect. One of my favorite parts is the part time job sidequest for Yae. Seeing all the different ways she could fuck with the kids calling in was funny.

Yeah the Yae phone minigame was really funny... especially the part about game development. It's actually nice, like the devs giving actual tips for kids who want to become game developers one day. And they even talk about development hell and stuff. Pretty amazing kind of meta/4th wall stuff.

First of all, you do have a N64 memory card, right? The game doesn't have an internal battery so you'll need one to save your game.

As for the game itself, there's a fortune teller in the game that will help you when you get stuck PLAAASMAAAAAAAAAAAAA

You might get stuck on the Impact boss battles too (the giant robot). Impact has special moves, if you don't have the manual for the game, look them up online on gamefaqs or something.

I wish they'd let them do an original game (like Epic Yarn was supposed to be). But to be honest, their games are pretty good.

On an ideal scenario, Nintendo and Konami would collaborate and Good Feel would make a new Goemon game.

Oh sorry. I haven't played the DS game in a while so I don't remember too much about it... I remember there was one part that was frustrating and it involved moving a big ball around (similar to that one infamous part of Super Mario Sunshine).
But anyway go play it, it's fun.

has konami turned goemon into a pachinko yet? if not they should just sell it to Nintendo
>>
>>335792981

That's subjective I think. Wario Land Shake it is pretty good.
Epic yarn looks and plays amazingly, can't say it's a bad game, but I was never a big fan of Kirby games to begin with (or rather, I never really put much effort into liking them).

I have yet to play Yoshi but most people say it's the best Yoshi game after the original Yoshi's Island and a huge step up after the infamous DS and 3DS games.

The same shit happened again only it was some Star Wars game with an off-brand Millennium Falcon and an unknown hero. By the time I actually got MM, it was unplayable anyway because lol no memory cartridge

I don't know whether to mad at the little assholes who switched the games or the workers who never checked. Either way, if you were one of them, fuck you.

1) Goemon fever died out when Japanese 90s kids became adults
2) The series itself doesn't fully commit to genre. The original games set the standard for Legend of the Mystical Ninja. This was later superseded by Goemon 2's standard decided to implement a map screen and sometimes objectives in the town which can lead to progress, this is is the tried and true method as it's seen on games like the GBC game, Goemon's Great Adventure, that PS1 co-op game and the New Age series. Goemon 3 set the standard for SOME games, like Mystical Ninja on the N64 and Goemon on PS1 (the 2D one). 4 and the DS one were a bit of 2 and 3's methods.

That's not even counting the JRPGs on the Famicom, the Game Boy series which can be a hit or miss, the Ebisumaru puzzle game spin-off, the board game on N64 and even a Pokemon clone on the GBC.

I'd love to see a stylistic return to form or even an HD/high poly remake on par with the Pachinko games' CGI (or even an uncut release of Goemon's Great Adventure) but Goemon's a bit of a hard sell these days.

They knew.
>>
>>335797238
Oh, so that's why the game has nothing but a completely silent title screen. Always seemed pretty awkward.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDmPwujSlf8
>>
>>335797238
From what I understand a lot of the cuts were because of ROM space.

Like apparently English text was inflating the cart space and rather than springing for a larger ROM than the original Japanese they meant to keep it the same size by making a snip on a cutscene there, voice clip there and a sequence here.

That or it was licensing issues.

>>
>>335798686
Not really. Goemon turned to shit because Konami wanted to modernize everything to be cool like Metal Gear and other such franchises.

Once they realized this was a mistake, they were already giving Etsunobu Ebisu the boot. Konami's shit out of luck on making Goemon great again seeing how Good-Feel is technically on no one else's dollar but Nintendo's

Only things wacky about that game were the controls and Sakurai letting NoA rewrite the entire game.
