i could tell underground was dodgy from that first god awful kickstarter trailer but i did pick it up in some indie bundle for 2 bucks along with 7 other games just to see how it turned out but i dodged a bullet big time

I just recently played through the Half-Life expansions on my 144hz monitors and that was a fuuuuun time.

FPS shooter with levelling up and stat upgrades. Enemies leave behind nodes restoring health and energy if gathered instantly or energy if gathered later - a mechanic that allows you to go both full rambo shock trooper, long range sniper, or midrange coversneaking without punishing you for either choice. Customizablr weapon and utility modifications, with limitations changing depending on the level. Also, a metric fuckton of decent humor. Why isn't this game revered as the messiah of FPS, again?

It was decent, but wouldn't put it among my favourites. Swordplay was fun, but the gunplay left a lot to be desired, and the upgrade system felt a bit clunky. Levels were generally pretty linear, minus a few exceptions.
Shadow Warrior 2 looks like its improving a few things, so I'll give that a go when it comes out.

I can forgive the story, Wolfenstein has never been grounded in reality, but it tries to be this 'DEEP AND SERIOUS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT' gamewhich also contains nazi moon bases and underwater jew bunkersand it just comes off really dumb.

Eh, they're okay, but they're far too simplistic for my tastes. They lack the labyrinthine level design that was common in 90's FPSs, so it kinda just strictly falls into "fight this wave of enemies to proceed" gameplay, which can get boring.
