It's like the internet isn't the "wild west" it used to be, but it's not quite Disneyland yet (give it time...). I can't fathom how, in the span of a decade, we've gone from "don't tell anyone on the internet personal information" to snapchatting pictures of our assholes to each other #starfish.
I generally don't talk about ANY subject unless I know the other person is into it. Doing that is a true mark of not being socially adjusted. However, when it comes up I generally don't have a problem showing my powerlevel, but my tastes are very varied. I grew up playing jRPGs but as I got older I still enjoyed plenty of "normie" games. I can just as easily sperg out about the socio-economic and philosophical issues involved in FF9 as I am to go "DUDE WEED LMAO" at that one level in Far Cry 3. I can also protect myself in conversation about why I don't like supernormie games like AssCreed and use the foolproof shield of "But hey, in the end games are supposed to be fun so if you enjoy the game then that is awesome!" at the end. Nobody can challenge that face to face.
But there ARE some situations where I might outright deny I even game at all.
