>The most interesting items are all DaS2 items

Why though? Even Farron keep looks like it might be Majula with the fucking seascape.
>>
Because outside of level design DaS2 had great weapon variety and gameplay mechanics.

There is a reason people say it has the best PvP in the series.
>>
>>335763632
>There is a reason people say it has the best PvP in the series.
because the soul series has rabid fanboys who will deflect any criticism and attack the criticizer?
>>
>>335763632
Pretty much this. I loved the Inuyasha sword and that generally all boss weapons did a cool thing.
>>
>>335763632

DaS2 probably had the best level design thoughz and world connectivity. I can't remember a single instance where you were randomly transported to a different destination in DaS2.

Harvest valley to Iron keep is one of the most jarring and stupidest transitions in video games
>>

Yeah after 100 "regulation" updates and two versions of the game. No shit.

Expect Das3 PVP be much better in a year.

You could say the same thing about Undead Asylum to Firelink in DaS. And also Kings Garden to Untended Graves in DaS3. Neither make any sense geographically.
>>
>>335764554

A crow flies you to Firelink in the first game
>>
>>335764259
>>335764270
Dark Souls 2 uses tunnels and elevators instead of teleports to represent huge distances. For example the Iron Keep is visible from the Harvest Valley at the distance. It's like the way from Majula to Heide, the tunnels are a representation not an actual 1:1 scale. The world of Das2 is x100 higher than Das1 or Das3, but they also wanted to keep it "interconnected". Probably they should have just go for the bonfire teleport way like Das3, but still, I don't mind it.
>>
>>335764259
>>335764270
>>335764459
In DaS2 you could literally walk to any location for Majula. ANY LOCATION in the game.

>B-BUT IRON KEEP

So fucking what? Demon Ruins isn't geographically accurate in relation to Ash Lake, but nobody brings that up.
>>
>>335764692
Besides the teleport from lothric castle to undead settlement everything else is connected in DS3. Even from the first bonfire in undead settlement you can look down and see farron keep and cathedral of the deep. The fires will even be out if you've already done that in the swamp
>>
>>335764670
And that is good world connectivity, is it? You also fly off to Anor Londo from Sens Fortress.

>It's OK when Miyazaki is a hack
>>
>>335765078
Exactly, but then again that's a tiny distance compared to the extension of the peninsula where Dark Souls 2 takes place in. I personally find Das3 world design way better than 2, but its not a fair comparison however.
>>
>>335765240
>Probably they should have just go for the bonfire teleport way like Das3, but still, I don't mind it.

I was meaning to say that they only do the teleport a few times in DS3. I forgot about Archdragon Peak which is a teleport
>>
>>335765078
Not really. No giant mountain can ever be seen from any other location in the game which is supposed to Archdragon Peak. Even from the Irithyll Dungeon it looks like a floating rock in the sky, but apparently it is built on a mountain top. You can't see it anywhere though.
>>
>>335765476
>>335765417
>>
>>335764289
The only reason no full orbs is a problem is because of Soul memory (since cracked orbs are sold infinitely and DaS2 has one of the best soul farming spots of any game). thus Soul Memory is the only thing DaS2 did wrong in terms of multiplayer.
>>
>>335765587
OK? You still can't see Archdragon peak from anywhere else in the game apart from Irithyll Dungeon. You should be able to see it plainly from the Boreal Valley, since it should be closer geographically, not to mention the fact it's a FUCKING MOUNTAIN which literally ascends into the clouds.
>>
>>335765476
I'm not exactly sure if you "physically" go to archdragon peak. Like it's an out of body experience some how during the mediation. But I see your point. I liked the whole vertical feeling of the world in dark souls 3.
>>
>>335765968
Yeah I was saying it's not connected like everything else and I forgot to mention it
>>
>>335766089
>I'm not sure if you physically go to Archdragon Peak

You can literally fucking see it. It looks like a giant floating island in the sky.
>>
>>335766198
But it is. It literslly sits atop a mountain.
>>
>>335765476
what?
>>
>>335764259
explain the transition from blight town to ash lake. for whatever reason a massive underground sewer chamber that not only links to a massive lava ruin, but is also at the top of a tree that opens into a seemingly unending gray area surrounded by water and more giant trees.
I didn't really like the whole magic elevator thing either, but 2 wasn't the only one with issues.

>>335765417
Yeah, and I mean it mostly for the Valley - Iron Keep connection. A teleport / flying cutscene thing would have been much better. Nobody will ever complain about the connection to the Archdragon Peak which is great btw, the fact that you have to meditate for a few seconds to trigger the event its pretty good and very rewarding to discover blind.

Had they done something similar in DaS2 to reach the Iron Keep from the top of the Harvest Valley, nobody would have complained. They chose the elevator cause they apparently were too obsesed with making the whole thing a continued transition. Bad desition? Probably, but once you understand how tunnels and elevatrs in Das2 doesn't represent actual distances but longer journies between parts of world of Drangleic (another example the tunnel to Drangleic Castle), you appreciate it a bit better imo and you're able to even forgive the Valley - Iron Keep connection.

I know. I thought that guy was saying that archdragon peak doesn't exist anywhere on the map, though.

>>335766434
ash lake is the lowest point in the game aside from BoC, you can see the great hollow from firelink, I mean you're right that you should be able to see the ceiling because the trip down isn't that long, and you should also technically be able to see a large cliff where ToG and Izalith would be
>>
>>335766814
Well it's obvious. You can observe it yourself, and there's an actual map of Drangleic ingame, in the abandoned house in Majula. I don't think the game explains itself very well, no Souls does it it explicity by design but implicity and in that regard DaS2 also falls short, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work like this. It's a very accepted opinion I think.
>>
The heide knight set was my favorite armor across all games.
>>
Why is it always night time in Irithyll Valley?
Why doesn't the world change in firelink when it changes everywhere else?
How the fucking shit do you time travel?

Mayazki has never known how to create consistent and concise worlds. It's all just random mumbo jumbo.
>>
>>335764943

Because you can't look down and easily confirm for yourself that they're not positioned correctly. Seriously it's just the fact that it's so glaringly obvious with Iron Keep

>>335767016

>>
>>335766862
I personally prefer the interpretation that each Archtree is a world unto itself. You just descend to the bottom of YOUR world; all the other trees are OTHER worlds.

But that's just one way to look at it. I don't think there's any definitive evidence either way. That's what's so cool about it. I fucking love giant world trees.
>>
reminder that you have to get the 4 great souls to progress because a few rocks block the way to the castle in ds2
>>
>>335767219
stop with this shitty excuse everytime there's something inconsistent

>>335767116
It's just the way From chooses to represent time cycles. Half-Life 2 and many other linear games have static time that "changes" as you progress. The developers choose for Anor Londo to be night because it's aesthetically pleasing. Like how Ravenholm was night.

Since DS3 is non-linear, major events like the eclipse are seen throughout the whole map save Irithyll, and Peak once it is triggered which I thought was neat.
>>
>>335767408
>Giant world trees

What? You mean the Gaint Memories?
>>
>>335767597
No, I mean the Archtrees in Ash Lake. We were specifically talking about Ash Lake. DaS. Not DaSII.
>>
>>335767545
>DaS3
>Non linear

Really? There's literally two paths you can take throughout the entire game, and one leads to a dead end.
>>
>>335767298
It seems like a really improvised solution for a game made in 6 months from butchered pieces of a cancelled project. Bandai is the worst shit. My point is that if anything From's team B are glorious bastards that made a fairly decent Souls game under those terrible conditions and in a record time, adding pretty interesting elements and improvements in the middle of all their problems.

>>335767851
Not really, you can kill the Dancer of the Boreal Ass right from the beginning and climb to the Duke's Archives, Dragon's Peak, etc. etc.
>>
>>335767683
The trees in ash lake make no fucking sense at all. Your head canon doesn't change that. Geographically they are holding up Blighttown, but are also on the same vertical level as Demon Ruins. It's retarded.
>>
>>335767851
I'm starting to think the interconnectivity of DaS was a fluke.
>>
>>335763297
maybe its because all the souls games are good games that have their strengths and weaknesses?

>>
>>335767965
That's why I said I personally prefer the interpretation that I stated, which I even think is supported by in-game lore somewhere. I wasn't trying to argue for them "making sense", just offering a different take on them.

The worlds in Dark Souls (the series) don't make much sense anyways. Trying to attribute logic to every facet of them is a futile exercise.

That's why you can't where heavy armour. You need at least 30 VIT + Havel's ring, and even then you'll need to compromise.

>forced to one path until vordt
>can go through lothric, archives, untended graves
>forced back into settlement until crucifixion woods
>can split to farron keep or deep cathedral

There are many combinations you can do. That's nonlinear. Linear is CoD 4 campaign.

>>
>>335768223
They are. Why do you think the last half of Das1 is so unfinished? Bandai forced From to release the game several months before it was finished to compite with Skyrim in november. That's how retarded they are.

And that's why Miyazaki ran after Sony's offer for Bloodborne even though they treated him badly in the past, but at least they're not a bunch of retards like Bandai.

I'm surprised Das3 has turned well. I guess Bandai can't be so stupid after all and just let From do their shit.
>>
>>335764554
>Kings Garden to Untended Graves in DaS3.

I'm pretty sure that transition is intentionally illogical
>>
>>335768764
Have you even played the game? Half that shit you mentioned is optional. Here's how the mandatory stuff goes.

High wall > Undead Settlement > Road of Sacrifices

Now, from here you can go in either one of two directions. Either you go to the Cathedral of the Deep, or you can go to Farron Keep. Cathedral is mandatory but also leads to a dead end. Farron Keep is also mandatory but takes you in the direction you need to go. Irithyll is the next real area, and from here, you can branch off twice. One branch leads to the dungeon and the Profained Capital (Mandatory), and and one leads to Another Londo (Also Mandatory). From either of those locations, depending on which you do first, you head to Lothric Castle, and from there it's literally a straight road to the last mandatory boss you need to kill.

Everything else is optional.

yeah

you need to wait for an npc to die outside the archives and drop a key to get in

plus killing dancer, dragonslayer armor, consumed king and the champ that early in the game is a stupid idea since you'll die a lot due to being weak and underlevelled

there's only one linear path to go in the game and if you get stuck there aren't really any other alternatives apart from bruteforcing.
>>
>>335773471

choices open up

you can go from farron to cathedral or to the abyss watchers

from abyss watchers, you can go to irithyll, and then to the profaned capital/dungeon or anor londo

once you're at lothric castle, there's an optional side path with two bosses that lets you double back to irithyll and do an optional area with another two bosses

game's not as nonlinear as DaS1, but you get options
