The beauty of Doom is that there wasn't any one enemy that was hard to fight, it was that with every room you had to take down a small army. It was less traditional FPS and more of a Shoot Em Up.

It doesn't matter if a function is able to be turned off. The game is designed assuming the player has it turned on.

It causes poor level design. It has nothing to do with it making the game more difficult. Think about designing a map where you are assuming the player knows exactly which general direction to head. The mapper will care more about visually appealing to the viewer along the way, rather than the entertainment coming from solving the map.

Why can't FPS on console just have look controls like fucking PVZ Garden Warfare or Battlefield 3/4? If there's one thing those games did well it was looking controls, there was no drag at all, if you wanted to look quickly in one direction, you could, no problem or lag to it.

Huh. Watching the E3 Doom gameplay made me want to give up on videogames altogether and I haven't been on /v/ for months but this actually looks decent.
Not great though, it looks like it falls into a lot of shitty AAA trends like linear levels, enemies that come in hordes and burst with health pickups like piñatas, tight corridors, and outlined objectives, and it still looks slow as fuck, but it looks somewhat fun and I like the monster designs and that there's some color to it, but it's not nearly enough. One of my favorite things about Doom is its weird, colorful and abstract take on Hell, this looks generic as fuck.

How was that a single player version of it? It looked like they just had a multiplayer idea and slapped some key/trap shit in there.

That neither looked nor felt like DOOM 1 or 2. Maybe more than DOOM 3 but it was at least going for the survival horror thing. It wasn't fast moving at all. Putting a shitty double jump and adding constant respawing enemies isn't DOOM. For fuck's sake.

I'm legit disappoint after that. I don't even know what to say.

I guess the enemy models were nice to look at. They put some attention to detail to how enemies react and surprise attacks. Wow, that hasn't been done better since!

I'll still play this because holy shit it's been a long time since we got a real First Person Shooter but I'm still really disappointed by how slow it is.

Doom is such an elegant shooter, not an ounce of filler or fat was put in its design. Find keys/items, kill enemies, get to the exit. That's all. Doom 4 has LMAO Light RPG Mechanics Story, Kill Cutscenes, Cutscenes just to show the character pressing a switch. All crap that just slows down the game. I mean seriously a notification window so I can read about Pinky in some stupid Codex? Who gives a shit?

You can use ammo and maybe armour to reward exploration. Maybe even weapons, it's always fun to find a powerful gun a level or two earlier. But with HP, I mean I guess this shooter has arenas so it's not that much of a concern, but in original Doom you often could just run away from a fight and go restock on medkits. I think encouraging aggressive behavior on low HP could be interesting. The only problem is if demons drop too much HP - imps really shouldn't drop more than 5-15.

Honestly, this looks no bueno. Weapon wheels are always shit. The slow down from it is shit. All those fucking UI pop-ups are ugly. Health piñata enemies. The pulling out weapon animation is fucking retarded; it slows shit down so much. This video itself just shows the lack of performance fidelity. Screen tearing when spinning around, the sound was de-syncing. What the fuck. Why do you have this in your promotional material? Did I mention, this is so fucking slow. The retard that they have play this makes it look even more terrible. I can honestly find myself not completely disgusted by the game by itself, but the imbecile they have playing it makes it look so bad.

All in all, as someone who loves DOOM, this looks like absolute shit. And how fitting, the awful television commercial is disgracing my television. Do I sound jaded enough? I'm not, this just looks awful and a stain on DOOM that makes the original release of DOOM 3 look like a godsend.

I caught onto this when playing DOOM 64. It was so much of a fusion of DOOM and what we got with DOOM 3.

The crazy quick paced stuff got solidified by Quake later on which most don't care about and it's forgotten to younger people now.

However, we're in Bethesda territory. A company that depends on their mod community yet corrals it and doesn't release mod tools until it suits their monetary gains.

Hate to be negative since I feel this game still deserves a fair chance but this doesn't really look great at all. It's hard to nail down exactly how I feel this game should play and look like but I can safely say that this is not it.

Even then it still deserves an honest playthrough before a final judgment. From what I am seeing it looks like this game would get boring fast. The lack of speed and enemy count doesn't help this game.
