It ranges from easy shit that almost plays itself, to ball bustingly hard if you don't have an OP party and a well planned strategy.
I also remember reading somewhere, that if you succeed on Naoya's trial the first time you meet him after the lockdown, the game automatically becomes harder without making you know it.

Devil Survivor is a turn based strategy game, and movement/attacking takes place on a grid.
You don't capture demons, per se, rather you buy and fuse them together to make new demons. I highly, highly suggest you fuse frequently, especially due to how levelling/level scaling works in this game.

In part, yes. Before playing O and RB, I played the vanilla versions of both 1 and 2, and 1 was just painfully tedious in so many ways.
And then, even in the updated versions, Overclocked still feels a bit unrefined in terms of gameplay and even a bit slow. The lack of demons was a huge turn-off for me, too. And then there are some issues that can't be solved without completely redesigning the game, like the stupid amount of escort missions.
On the other hand, I liked the soundtrack, routes, and characters in 2 better. I still love 1 to death, though.

DeSu2 removed the shit that made DeSu1 too easy and unbalanced, like the overpowered Recarm mechanic in 1 and the way you could teach any demon any skill if it was in your team's skillpool. The add-ons weren't nearly as overpowered as a mechanic. Plus it had more content and replayability.
DeSu2 was superior as a srpg game, and that's what matters to me.
I didn't think DeSu1 had a significantly better plot or cast anyway.

Yuzu may be an insufferable pair of tits, but at least it's a reasonable, human reaction given they're fighting for their lives multiple times a day, and that escaping the lockdown might actually give them a chance of avoiding the fucking that comes on the 7th dayshe's wrong in her assumption, but it's still a pretty reasonable effort up to that point. Io is only good for a plot point later in the game, and that's it. She has virtually no personality outside of being the obligatory soft-spoken waifu character.

At least he gets solid development, while Atsuro is essentially the same throughout the whole game. Efficient, confident, and loyal with Phones. Daichi actually grows and has one of the best Fate events in the whole game. I also liked the fact that he eventually developed his own opinion, but was still loyal at the end of the day.

I guess I'm less sympathetic towards Daichi given he gets an immediate source of food, power, and housing, along with being under the authority of a group with centuries of knowledge and experience in fighting demons. Yeah, I can understand how someone would be virtually catatonic after realizing the world you once knew just vanished into the void, but in a situation like that it's either get fighting or get dying, and he chooses to avoid fighting most of the time.He does get points for running into the big bad ice cream though.
Yuzu and her group are basically fighting for their lives multiple times a day, along with having to gather information on the enemies they're fighting on their own. DeSu 2's cast is also fighting for their existence daily, but most of their fights basically revolve around stopping people from being completely fucking retarded and running into fights they can't win.
I don't know. DeSu 2's cast face annihilation every single day, but they're aware and prepared for it most of the time. DeSu's cast has more relative leeway in terms of constant doom, but they have virtually no support in their fights.
Maybe it just comes down to opinions, I don't know, but I found the situations and characters in DeSu far more relatable and realistic than DeSu 2's was.

I agree with most of what you're saying, especially the part about the dissonance between the tone and the situation of the game. But I do disagree with the part about 2's cast's fight revolving around preventing people from being retarded; if anything, I'd said that that applies to DeSu1 more, since most of the missions are about escorting retards or protecting retards from other retards.
Meanwhile, Bunny and the gang fight against Evangelion-esque stars in a daily manner, the problem is that the seriousness of these fights is screwed by the disonnance between the Fate events and the plot-related events.
And while they do get free food and shelter, the world is literally being consumed every day, which *should* give a feeling of impending doom. DeSu is different, as society is just slowly collapsing in that world.
It's a good game.

World of STR is fucking amazing starting from mid-game and onward. Since enemies can only reflect attacks once, and that is completely invalidated if you equip any multi-hit skill attack, pierce and drain physical.
The only problem from this is that only one party member can equip these skills, and the MC is better off filling any of the varied magical builds you can do. While Atsuro, Kaido, Izuna naturally get pretty good stat builds.
