it may take you half an hour to an hour to get the controls setup just the way you like, but a fun game once you do.

I highly recommend using mouse and keyboard; don't even try with a gamepad.
>>
>>335759667
Mad World looks pretty good at higher resolutions, if you are trying to play with a regular controller you will find issues with the waggle options.

>>335760778
Citra just got higher resolution support but still runs at 15fps.
WiiU is probably still in a super early state.
>>
>>335760790
Is it really that bad with the original controller? I'm using a Mayflash Wii bar and everything syncs up nice enough...
>>
What have you already played?
I recommend the rainfall games- xenoblade, the last story, Pandoras tower
>>

Also nsmbwii and no more heroes are both good

Why is it so impossible to find an actual iso download of this game?

Honestly been catching up on GCN games and recently got into the Mario Galaxies, I'll check those out since I've had an RPG itch too lately. That Trauma game looks interesting too.

How in the living fuck does this look better than 3D World? It's so pleasing to the eyes. It doesn't look like everything is hard of shiny plastic like 3D World does.
>>
>>335765732
Nintendo tried back then. Galaxy games were basically AAA productions.

3DW is a NSMB game that just happens to be in 3D. The worlds are flat, square, simple, samey and repetitive, making it really easy to copypasta the same assets all over the place. Then they added a shitty shader to everything to make it look like Pixar.
>>
>>335765732
I think that's exactly it. All the "New" Mario games look so perfectly pristine and artificial. The same thing I really hate about some of the more recent final fantasy games.

I wish games focused more on higher resolutions/AA and framerate over shaders and poly count.
Having a crisp, smooth image is so much more pleasing to the eye than some muddle, choppy shit.
>>
>>335761008
>I'm using a Mayflash Wii bar
How in the world do you use that thing? I recently bought it to replace my blutooth dongle and ir bar setup but shit the wire on the mayflash bar is just so ridiculously thick getting it to line up straight is such a fucking pain in the ass because of how stiff the wire is. Can't even back it up against a wall/monitor/tv because the wire comes out the back end.

I really want to use it but it's just not practical unless I'm willing to glue the damn thing to my monitor.
>>
>>335766919
This.

What the fuck happened to games.
>>
>>335766919
The reason it's so crisp is because it's being supersampled. 3x native is actually 1920x1584 which is then sampled to 1080p (assuming you're running at 1080p), which is the most effective way to eliminate jaggies. Puts even the best AA to shame

Problem is, very demanding. Wii U could not do this. Wii U can't even run WWHD at 1080p/30fps without framedrops. The hardware is a joke. You really expect them to be able to run Wii games at supersample resolutions and 60fps?

galaxy 2's art style seemed to up the saturation quite a bit, which fits mario.

>Wii U can't even run WWHD at 1080p/30fps without framedrops.
That's with its new lighting though. The Wii U totally could've had GCN-like graphics at that.
And as some of the HD rereleases, like Okami HD, showed, the PS3/360 could've had PS2-like graphics at 1080p/60fps w/ AA.

>>
>>335769135
Think SM64/Sunshine controls anon
>>
>>335769135
What I use to do is right stick is wiimote cursor, left stick is nun chuck stick. LT and A is A, RT and B is B. X and Y are Z and C. LB/RB is shake and modifiers if you need to use the sticks as the wiimote/nunchuck accelerometer.

I use a DS4 now though, which is much easier to map.

I think its long gone sadly. You can recreate the setup as described in the image using the Configure Control window (right click on an input to modify). You can set multiple conditions to satisfy the button press.

For example, Tilting the Right Stick while LT is not held manipulates the camera, while tilting the Right Stick while LT IS held moves the cursor around. You can make negative conditions alone, like the "Hide IR Cursor" input can be set to LT is not being held as oppose to pressing LT to "Hide IR Cursor". You would do that so the IR cursor stays hidden unless you want to use it (by holding LT).

It's got 2D level design with 3D movement. That's exactly what it is. At least with 3D land, there was a 3D element, but in world, it's just that without 3D, meaning 2D levels with 3D movement.

Color palette, and to a lesser extent lighting. "Galaxy" as a theme really was a perfect storm of aesthetics and gameplay; the high contrast, slightly "glowing" look of everything is absolutely perfect for "cartoony" 3D graphics because it allows you to recapture the definition that's lost when you remove outlines.

For whatever crazy reason, Nintendo went from being a leader with the Wii to a follower with the U; NSMB and 3D World especially utilize aesthetics that are patterned after contemporary visions of what cartoons should look like -- that is, lacking definition and with an eclectic and/or pastel color palette. It works, for the most part, with 2D images, but translated to 3D it's absolutely atrocious. Pair that with gratuitous use of bloom and other last-gen effects and modern Mario games look like absolute trash. It's a bit hard to blame them though; in a way Galaxy is already the pinnacle of its aesthetic style -- to "improve" upon it you'd need to go in a completely different direction, which is more likely to upset fans and weaken the brand than anything else.

There is litttle to no bloom in SMG. That "halo" effect on everything is a geometry shader, it makes objects lighter the closer they are to perpendicular with the viewing plane. This is a real-world optical phenomena and is sometimes called a fresnel ramp in rendering. Bloom, on the other hand, is a postprocess effect and an attempt to replicate an artifact that occurs in imaging devices like cameras because of their low dynamic range. Fresnel actually increases definition and allows you to resolve a form more clearly, whereas bloom muddles detail and makes things harder to see.

>You're either going forward, or right. It's like comparing Crash to Super Mario 64. There's only a handful of areas like >>335773798, and they're really just flat plains.
Except the same could be applied to Galaxy.
There are very few worlds that are "open" like Beach Bowl Galaxy, otherwise you only have the option to keep moving forward. There are even a lot of sections that go straight 2D.

>>335776864
If you can move freely in a 3D space, and it's a platformer, it's a 3D dimensional platformer.

The level design is inconsequential to that fact, 64 had linear "2D" style levels, Sunshine had linear "2D" style levels, and Galaxy had linear "2D" style levels (and overall was the most linear of the three). Doesn't mean any of them are suddenly 2D or "2.5D" platformers.

Final Fight doesn't qualify because you're not moving in a 3D space, and the camera is fixed.
Most people don't know you can freely move the camera in 3D World.

Are people retarded? This guy is right, obviously. 3D Land and World are clearly dumbed down and play more like sidescroller games like 70% the time. Not always but mostly. Even Galaxy 1 and especially Galaxy 2 have way, way too many sidescrolling segments with locked camera. If I buy a 3D Mario, I want 3D gameplay.
>>
>>335774570
I agree with you but where exactly are you drawing this line?
Are Crash and 3D World 'not very 3D' because they mostly take place in corridors, or just because they are linear?
How do things like the Bowser levels in SM64 or the secret courses in SMS not fall into this?
What is it about Crash and 3D World in particular that makes them feel so 2D even though they are obviously 3D?
>>
>>335774698
That halo effect is in Galaxy games and is not present in 3D World.
