Great Game
>>
>>335742217
As good as TTYD, and the ice area with the penguin murder case is my favorite level.
>>

>>335742131
What was you guys' favorite part/aspect of this game? What made it so good?
>>
>>335741981
It's fantastic. It's easily the best RPG on the Nintendo 64 (though I guess that isn't a hard goal to achieve).

Paper Mario- 8.75/10
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door- 9.5/10
Super Paper Mario- 7/10
Pape Mario: Sticker Star- 6/10
>>
TTYD > SMRPG > PM64 > M&L series in general > SPM > PMSS
>>
>>335741981
what i don't understand is how Nintendo managed to fuck up making a paper game that literally has no homage to its predecessors
>>
>>335742426
What makes this game (and TTYD) so incredible is not the gameplay. It's the goddamn charm and wit. Intelligent Systems took the Mario set-piece, gave it a storybook aesthetic, and gave us cute stories. Plus, dat OST.
>>
>>335742454
I always viewed sticker star and spm to not be canon. Paper Mario 64 and ttyd took place in the same world (the beginning cutscene of ttyd even took place in the same house as paper Mario just with updated graphics.)
Super paper Mario takes place in a completely different realm where only special people can view as 3d. Sticker star takes place in a completely different mushroom kingdom
>>
>>335742664
But also the gameplay is good too.

Minus the backtracking, which has gotten progressively worse with every new game in the Paper series.
>>
>>335742650
Smrpg is a great game. But it just feels like a generic square Enix rpg, it doesn't have that special charm the paper Marios always had. And no action commands made combat dull
>>
>>335742732
in super paper mario they were transported to that realm by count bleck in bowser's castle. technically bowesr's castle was the one and same from the previous paper mario games
>>
>>335742836
PM got its action commands from SMRPG. Sure the future games expanded the concept but they were there in the original.
>>
>>335742426
Tubba Blubba.
best chapter, best boss theme and best qt partner
>>
>>335742861
I haven't played spm in a very long time. I know it started in the mushroom kingdom. But was it really the same mushroom kingdom as the previous paper marios or was it different like in sticker star?
>>
>>335742836
>SMRPG
>no charm
>no action commands

Confirmed for poser who never played it.

SMRPG has the same kind of goofy, easy going atmosphere as the first two Paper games, and it has action commands in combat.
>>
>>335742454
I prefer the other RPG Ogre Battle 64 by far
>>
>>335743063
judging by the aesthetics in bowser's castle it was the same mushroom kingdom. it seems everything changed when sticker star was introduced.
>>
>>335743112
I never said it didn't have charm. It just felt like another square Enix game. I know it had action commands just not to the extent as the other games. I still liked it
>>
>>335743215
Ahh. Well I will now be adding spm to my paper Mario canon. It will just be my least favorite of the Canon games
Not necessarily a terrible game. Just doesn't have the same charm as the others
>>
>>335743234
>damage control
>>
>>335743017
Tuba blubba is definitely one of my favorite bosses in any Nintendo game
>>
>>335742285
What happened to that HD mod autists were losing their shit over a while back? Looked good

What did pic related get wrong?
>>
>>335743343
i know exactly what you mean by that.
>>
>>335743586
Stickers sucked (both in combat and for puzzles), no partners again, weakest writing, most backtracking, least interesting areas and bosses, rarely made it clear what the fuck you needed to be doing, least wit/humor/charm, etc.

It just did everything worse than every other Mario RPG.
>>
>>335741981
Quite excellent. Everything it does, it does well. There is a reason that I have a "Paper Mario standard" when it comes to RPGs.

>>335743586
It took out the companions, which means that it took out both the characters and the stories which made the first two games good and engaging.

Kersti is not interesting or engaging, wandering around a forest to find caterpillar parts is not a fun story, and silly paper-like movement was not the only charm the series had.
>>
The new one might turn out to be trash from every other standpoint but I like the way it looks. It's about time they actually made it look like paper.
>>
>>335742217
Combat was better in TTYD but I still liked 64 more.
Coming back to toad town after a chapter was fucking comfy shit.
>>
>>335743586
>pointless mini battles
>no rewarding rpg elements
>no creative characters
>battle system was retarded
>bowser had no dialogue
>too many paper refrences
>kersti was essentially starlow
>NO. FUCKING. PARTNERS.

What do you guys predict to see from pic related?

What do you guys want to see from pic related?
>>
>>335743586
Combat completely sucked
The fact that you could only use moves if you had stickers meant that you were avoiding battles instead of engaging them for experience.
There was less strategy in combat. No badges made things boring.
>>
>>335744118
For some reason toad town never felt like a hubworld or anything like that to me. I felt stupid because it took many years later to realize that that's what it was meant to be.

Probably just my autism desu
>>
>>335744410
I know what you mean it didn't feel like a hub world to me either when I first played it, the world was so seemless
>>
>>335744264
>What do you guys want to see from pic related?
Paper Mario/TTYD type game, with interesting characters joining you and story arcs which make playing through the game worth the time. It looks like the coloring aspect could be interesting, and I wouldn't mind the stickers aspect if they cleaned it up and removed the problem aspects.

>What do you guys predict to see from pic related?
Sticker Star 2: Retard Decision Boogaloo, No Story Allowed Edition
>>
>>335744560
Yeah, now knowing that it is a hub world almost makes it lose a little bit of charm.
Not quite tho
>>
>>335744620
>Sticker Star 2: Retard Decision Boogaloo, No Story Allowed Edition

Too late, they already named it Color Splash.

What would you guys think of a paper Luigi spinoff based on the stories he told Mario throughout the game in ttyd?
>>
>>335745336
i think i'd have to buy a new pair of pants because of the amount jizz stains
>>
>>335745336
I'd play it.

One thing I always hated about the PM games was not getting Paper Luigi as a companion.
>>
>>335745969
I'd think it would be cool if they changed the story a bit too. It might be a bit boring if we know exactly what's going to happen based on the stories he told mario.
Mayne Luigi fabricated some parts of his stories and stretched the truth to make himself out to be a bigger hero than he was?

Wipe off the dust on your old n64 and get those comfy nostalgic feels
>>
Just played it again last year for the first time in fukken forever. It can be surprisingly challenging when you don't level up just your HP. Tons of unique badge and partner combos makes for a much deeper battle system than I remember. Also all dat Yoshi's Island art. 10/10

Daily reminder that 64's artstyle was better than TTYD and that we'll never get an HD remake with upscaled 64 sprites.
>>
>>335748869
I didn't ask for this feel
;-;
>>
best mario RPG ever made
>>
I still don't see why we can't get PM in Smash.

The only argument against him is "too much Mario already."

Except:
1. We still keep getting new Mario characters every game anyway
2. PM subseries has no representation yet
3. He could have a completely unique playstyle
4. Still relevant because PM games are still being made
5. That didn't stop them from shitting too many FE characters into Smash
>>
>>335749763
fire emblem characters only, sorry
>>
>>335749763
Remove dr. Mario.
Isn't he just a clone of the original mario?
>>
>>335745336
why the fuck don't they make this
I'd buy ten copies if it was like PM/TTYD
>>
Lady Bow is hot, desu.
>>
>>335751106
I prefer vivian.
Even though she is a tray
>>335751005

>>

Don't do it Anons don't poke the bear.

My bad desu
>>
>>335741981
Anyone here only get around to playing this game recently? Didn't have games during the N64 era so I didn't have a chance to play it. I got it on the Wii virtual console and it was boring to play. It wasn't unbearably boring but I had to force myself to finish it. The only character I remember really is the boo but that's because I actually died in the final fight and had to use the boo partner to win
>>
>>335751946
I have it on my n64 but I have to turn it off and on a thousand times for it to detect my contoller. So I haven't been able to play it again until it came out for virtual console
>>
>>335743938
>no partners again

Pixls weren't as unique and memorable as the partners in the first two Paper Mario games, but they were there.
>>
>>335751106
Bombette is the bomb.
>>
>>335752203
They were more tools than they were partners
>>
>>335751946
me, I actually enjoyed it greatly, definitely gets to be on par with TTYD in some ways
>>
Strong 8/10 game.

It's only real flaws were that the game combat was exploitable, it was way too easy, and there wasn't really enough side content.
>>
>>335741981
I really liked how most of the common Mario enemies have a personality and shit, and there's good versions too. I was hoping to get more unique enemies (Shy Guy, Snifit, Pirahna Plant, etc) in a new Paper Mario game because they were so fun to interact with in the other two but...you know, Miyamoto....
