My first playthrough was heavy only and they're straight up outclassed by straight swords. Hitstun is inconsistent as fuck meaning you often end up getting one hit in then having to roll away because your weapon is so fucking slow and consumes so much stamina that that's all you can do. Poise being shit means that an enemy so much as poking your ankle with a dagger can hit you out of your attack animation too.
Worst part is, the damage output of heavy weapons outside of UGS (no doubt what you're using) doesn't come close to matching the drawbacks. I absolutely promise you they'll end up nerfing straight swords.
