I dont have the numbers on me now, but I remember vp1 getting abysmal sales on the ps1, sure they fucked up with no marketing.
But when silmeria and lenneth were launched for the ps2 and psp, they put a fair amount of effort in marketing, and still the games never got enough sales to make the devs happy.
Same with covenant of the plume, not enough sales on the ds.
If we do ever get a hrist game, it will either be multiplat digital only, or they will not even waste the money to bring over to the us.
All vp games were great, but if the devs feel like only going mobile will bring money in, I cant really blame them after the poor sales of vp1 and 2.

Wrong, the first game sold something like 700k copies in Japan. VP2 had a slightly lower sales, but it was still very successful for a mid-tier IP. It was niche in the West, but in Japan which is relevant here since it's where they're releasing the game, it did very well.
It's just that the market has changed significantly in Japan, console market has shrunk, less people being born and buying games, everyone is on phones. It started in the 6th gen, then the 7th gen where they all moved to handhelds like DS/PSP, now it's just smartphones. Even Star Ocean 5 which came out a few weeks ago had lower sales than the godawful SO4 on Xbox 360. It's all tumbling down. The people who grew up with the franchise over there are probably salarymen in their 30s and 40s now, so they'll play this on the train.
I still think they should've let the series die with dignity. We have Lightning Returns, and now Exist Archive which have a lot of similarities, if they're not gonna end VP on a high note, might as well not bother.

It's better than nothing. Not quite as good as a legit sequel with the entire original team, but there were so many things in that game that were reminiscent of VP, and it had a lot of input from tri-Ace.Best entry in the FF13 trilogy by far.
