If you count the Wii U as being 8th gen rather than, say, 7.5 or something. Of course, that would make the Wii 6.5 rather than 7 as well.
All the previous console generations lasted 5 years tops as well. It's just the 7th gen that dragged on forever so every other generation feels short.
Wii U was Nintendo's first HD console, they had to train a lot of younger people because they got lazy with the Wii.
7th gen was way too long as well, PS4, Xbone, Wii U should have all been released in late 2011.
Better end it fast, because it's likely the worst generation I've ever had the misfortune of experiencing.

I dunno, there's still 8 months to go, E3 is coming up soon so we'll probably get some game announcements when that happens. Wouldn't surprise me if they're saving some bigger shit for E3 so it's not as bad as last years. They won't be coming out with games in 2017 I can assure that.
