Wait, why doesn't anyone care about Romeo's game?
>>
Because he showed literally 3 concept arts and the last 26 years of games he was involved in are shit.

I want this to get founded but not with my money.
>>
>>335691138
ill buy it if it turns out good. but I wont fund it
>>
>>335691138

It's been roughly 100 years since Romero made something worthwhile.

The core 20 something year old gaming market doesn't even know who he is. It's actually been so long, people who are in their early 20s don't know who the fuck this fucking guy is.

When they look him up, all they see is how he was gonna make the world his bitch, and everybody had to suck it down. Blam, Daikatana. His last contribution to the gaming world was when Ion storm, instead of working on daikatana like they were supposed to, devoted time to deus ex.

Indirectly, he's responsible for making deus ex possible.

Also they don't have shit to show. A hologram rifle, a pipboy, and a diagram explaining exploding barrels? Give me a fucking break already.
>>
>>335691138
How bad is one seventh in just two days? I haven't been really following any other kickstarter so I'm not sure how that compares.

Maybe after Tim Shafer and MM9 people are starting to get sick of kickstarters?
>>
>>335693768
By putting the digital game download and beta access at $29 they've made the game reasonably priced. However with them wanting 700k they've also put all their eggs in the basket that they'll get a ton of backers. Like >>335693040 said though, Romero is a big name for older gamers and not well known for the more active younger gamers. I personally an slightly worried he might not hit the goal, will be easier to tell after a week or so
>>
>>335694051
Yeah as much as I think kickstarter is a really shady idea, I really hope this game kicks off because it sounds like everything I want in my FPS without any unnecessary bullshit that seems to be plaguing modern games.

I want to support it but it's just concept art right now. They really should have shown a playable alpha AT LEAST.
>>
>>335691138
In 2 days 2004 people have shown they care.
I'm probably gonna back it because I just love gambling on the kickstarter train
>>
>>335694292
Well what reason do you need a prototype other than to show you have a working engine?
You know they have an engine because the one they're using is free.
>>
>>335691138
Why on earth should I?
>>
>>335694410
>You know they have an engine because the one they're using is free.
Then they should have showed something on that engine. A model, shooting a gun, ANYTHING

You mean, why doesn't anyone care about Romero's commercial?
>>
Most of people who would jump to support him have likely been burned by so many kikestarters they've learned not to throw money at concept art
>>
>>335695840

They don't even have an ideas guy. They have a map designer and an artist.
>>
One word: Daikatana
>>
>>335695789

>He thinks it actually only takes $700k to make a full game these days

How to spot people that don't know how game development works. That's likely a set point where a publisher will throw in some of their own money if Romero can show there's interest in his idea for a game
>>
>>335691138
I don't want to be his bitch. Also, he only showed a few pieces of concept art which looks plain as fuck.

That didn't stop Tim Schafer... 3 times

>Broken Age
>Massive Chalice
>Psychonauts 2

yes, Massive Chalice isn't technically Schafer, but it literally had a white board and ZERO concept art. That's even worse than you describe

Anyway, I stopped giving a shit about FPS after Timesplitters died and Halo/Call of Duty babies started dominating the discussion, so I don't care about Blackroom really.
>>
>>335696026
He even says as much in the video. They have money lined up, they just have to prove there is interest.

>>335696234

what better way to gauge interest than do a 5-minute ideasguys video with a couple pieces of concept art?

instead of, you know, a footage of a prototype or a vertical slice, which you would do for any other investor (publisher).
>>
It will still get funded, never fear. Consumers will continue falling for the Kickstarter meme.
>>
>>335697037
It's like communism.

A great idea on paper, but fails in execution
>>
>>335696185
Massive Chalice is unironically a fun game, m8. Even if it's very simple compared to most other strategy games.

What a shock.
>>
>>335691138
There are a couple of reasons why it's not getting more funding in less time.
If you are too young you don't know him because he designed browser games and ios games in the recent past. I think he even remade some older games from id games for phones. Obviously not many people will care about those to be honest.

And if you are old enough to know doom and have played it, you'll stay away from the kickstarter for the very same reasons; he worked on ios and browser games for almost a decade now.

Let me ask this: What was the last fps romero worked on? The last good one?
>>
>>335692664
You have to fund it to buy it
>>
>>335691138
No gameplay, no 100 dollars from me. I've learned my lesson.

The instant gameplay footage goes up I'm pledging though, if only for the autograph.
>>
>>335693768
1000 backers a day is really really low for a guy this well known

millions of people in their 40s know who George Romero is
>>
>Has 20 years to make a new game
>Annouces a new game
>Not even a demo or in engine footage or anything
Nope this shit isnt even going to make goal or take off.

Lazy fuck just paid a concept artist to come up with a couple of sketches and he thinks he can sell a game these days based on that? Get fucked.

Barely anyone knows who he is even im 25 and i cant give a single fuck despite growing up with doom and quake and all of Carmacks brilliant tech

Shame all we have to look forward too now is a bunch of 20-30 something sjw cucks.

Sure, but they haven't exactly provided much material for people to get autistic about.

Pretend you were going to an investor to ask for money, and you said "I want to make a fast-paced FPS, and here is a couple of concept drawings."

At least have some concept art for things in the zones other than "HERE IS BLUE CASTLE MATRIX IMAGE"

How do I sell that to people?

Hell, I'm 30 and couldn't give a shit about Romero's games since Doom. I was never a fan of Doom anyway
>>

for me it seems like he is raiding on the carpet of his 4 glory years he spend at id Software and after that he literally made blunder daikatana ,costed Eidos 35 million dollar and spend the last 10 years making casual and child games for facebook and mobile phones.

Give me 1 reason why we should trust him now?
>>
>>335698784

then quake then unreal

Shame Romero still hasnt learnt shit.

I agree with you on both counts, but I'm peeved at the missed potential.

Its Kickstarter pitch invoked Final Fantasy Tactics and XCOM, and delivered neither. FFT and X-com are both masterpieces, of course, and high targets to aim at, but c'mon.

We've got 2016 levels of technology. The average normie has computing power up the ass that we didn't have in 1994/1997. The game industry should be doing better, not content with mere mediocrity in tactics games.

there something about needing like 50% in the first 3 to have a decent chance of getting funded. the graph is generally shaped like this

Because for the past 10 years, he's only worked on critically panned mobile games, and the last major game he worked on was Daikatana, which is considered one of the worst FPS of all time as well as arguably the biggest flop in gaming history.

One of their rich pals will likely bridge the gap if they're getting close near the end. Still just pocket change to Carmack, though.

MN9 drew from the autism of Rockman fandom.
The Doom fandom is too busy pre-ordering Not Doom so they can complain about its kill animations to support a game they'd actually want to play.

Memelands is popular. I'm sure he'd be glad to have any of his friends in the industry promote his project. Although I do wonder what kind of overlap there is between people that actually like Memelands and people that like classic FPS games.
