I played TF2 for just about 800 hours and got pulled in by their "Meet the" campaign before the game released. The fact that it was also bundled with the Orange Box was an easy way for people to get it.

The vanilla loadouts are widely considered to be the best in many cases, only Medic (Ubersaw, achievement weapon), Heavy (Sandvich, achievement item) and Pyro (Degreaser, although it has been nerfed recently and stock now has an advantage over it) might want to get specific non-stock weapons as soon as possible.
You cant really compare TF2 and overwatch characters... thats really subjective.

The vagueness works for TF2, if you knew everything about all the characters they wouldn't be as easy to put in so many different situations. The comics have revealed a lot about the classes, but it's never been put up front, you can get all the info you need about the characters from how they act and how they talk.
Really it makes a lot of sense that the characters would be stronger in a game that only has nine of them, forgetting characters in the supplemental stuff.
I'm just getting sick of team fortess 2. Some of the weapons are just not fun to play against.
It's not that some of them are overpowered, just not fun to be against. Like I don't like the demoman's shields just giving him stupid tanking and being able to escape while removing all debuffs on right click. Yeah it's not overpowered but it's pretty stupid.
The crit-a-cola needs a rework something fierce, no reason not to use it. It has like zero downsides.

Really some melee weapons are going to determine who wins the fight? You've got the bonesaw, the fists, the shovel, and the fireaxe and that's it. Everything else you start with is more reliable or just straight up better than 99% of unlocks. Hell these aren't even bad damage wise they just don't have utility like GRU getting heavy to the frontlines faster.
To me it's because all the characters in Overwatch are like super heroes. They're all perfect at what they do and it feels very processed.
TF2 all the characters are a fucking mess and they play on that. They have weird quirks and faults and it's amusing to watch them unfold.

Xcharacter has ult again? guess you have to die unless your tank can put up a shield in time.
There isn't even a strong visual indicator of if an enemy has an ult ready or not, and some of the ults you cant even tell they're happening. Put that all together and every time you die, it isn't because you weren't skilled enough, it's because you have no indication that you're about to be instagibbed at full health. That's the worst part in Overwatch. Usually when you die, it feels like it wasn't you fault, or how could you have known X was going to happen. The hitreg doesnt help either.
It's a casual experience that no one is going to appreciate long term.

unfortunately stock is best in most situations except deadringer or c&d or gunslinger. but you can earn those via achievements. if you are really really impatient, you can go to an achievement idle sever and type one command in the chat to unlock all the achievement items.
