I've been enjoying the Rachet and Clank remake.
What do you think of it /v/?

Would you want to see new Ratchet games for PS4?
>>
I absolutely love it and yes more Ratchet would be great. Insomniac needs to drop VR and get working on more Ratchet.

Personally, I enjoyed this game but it's pretty fucking clear that the Insomnaic that made this is not the same team that made the original trilogy
I love this series and I want to see it continue but I want Insomniac to leave and see a new talented studio take the helm
>>
Pretty good

Then I got the jetpack and it became the most fun I've had in ages

>Would you want to see new Ratchet games for PS4?

Didn't it sell 3more then what acit did in the UK? Also one of the artists for the game thanked people for buying the game long after it released, so I'm pretty sure we'll be getting more R&C games.
>>
It's excellent so far and I hope they make more R&C in the near future. The graphics are the best I've seen on the ps4 so far and it really does look like a Pixar movie. I think it's a nice relief from all the competitive games that have been coming out. It's a game that you can lay back and just enjoy, finally.

Does anybody else hate the sound of Clank helipack? They could've kept, the same sound for nostalgia's sake
>>
No. I'd rather them do more interesting things than be tied down to a franchise they've made a ton of games for in a short amount of time.
I don't think they should go the naughty dog route (fuck no, and fuck them), but I'd rather them not end up like Guerilla or Liverpool either.
>>335675851
This. Fucking this. Didn't help that they had to tie it into a movie reboot either.
In Japan, R&C 2016 is literally called "Ratchet and Clank: The Game", which shows you the development mindset that went into this.

I think this game was rushed and they cut the price expecting a shitstorm due to all the reused levels and the half-baked, disjointed plot.
The levels held up beautifully though and it's still as much fun as it always was, so the concerns were unfounded.

They changed it now it sucks, a pity they dropped Orxon and Oltanis, and botched Ratchet and Qwark's character arcs, but hey fuck it, the original still exists in the end.

I wish they'd just sending out the disposable bargain basement stuff and come out with a great, full-length game in this series, though. It's already been seven damn years since they released one I'd call complete. Nothing but "it's fine, but..." games since then.

It's a testament to how good the R&C formula is, that such a shallow, mess of a game, is still so damn enjoyable. They could have butchered it to ridiculous levels, but it'd still be like crack, as long as they kept that sweet spot they found for drops and weapon lvl up frequency.

It's not a glitch if it's intentional. Something like that doesn't just happen by accident

Mike Stout was actually brought back for this game and apparently worked on some of the clank segments among other things

I have to say I'm amazed they were able to make clank gadgebot gameplay that didn't surmount to different types of buttons. There was actual effort put into designing the order you had to do things in and juggling the placement of gadgebots and shit

>none of the music is anywhere near as memorable and enjoyable to hear as Bergaud's work
Don't get me wrong, the new one's soundtrack can be good but it's just like the rest of the future games - good.
>you will never hear https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3HQM_RPaVA in glorious remastered HD with the level to boot
>>
>>335684640
Oh, you are right, it's shilling only when other companies do it. Nevermind. Sony is flawless, viva sony.
>>
>>335685324

The main difference is, for the most part, bergeaud focused on writing each song around one catchy melody that only lasted a couple bars yet repeated on a near endless loop, just deriving different additional tracks that came and went on top of the repeating 'key' loop. That repetition is a large part of what made the music both catchy and memorable (although besides that he does also have a distinct grungy early-00s tone that sets the atmosphere really well)

Bross writes more 'musically' in the sense that there's longer melodies with some recurring themes, but pieces are written more traditionally 'orchestrally' with multiple countermelodies and harmonies. Recently he's shifting more to blending electronic sounds with the orchestral (just compare A4O's ost to RC16). Melodically I'd argue it's more complex and 'better' from a technical music standpoint, however it's simply not as memorable because it doesn't have the same 'looping hook' style that bergeaud successfully used
>>
>>335685767
Oh god no I agree completely. I just prefer memorability in music for association. I associate Metropolis with that particular them (and you're damn right about the atmosphere). Bross makes GOOD music but he does a lot of it. On every level it high quality music it's just harder to remember and associate beyond general themes in the music IE Veldin was PEACEFUL, Aleero City was URBAN.
>>
>>335674810
I enjoyed it,played through it three times and got the platinum trophy but I doubt I'll play it again anytime soon,it's good but it's certainly not the best....One of the worst parts about it though is the Galactic Rangers,Brax and Elaris may as well not even exist and Coras voice actor was awful....Elaris seemed kinda cool I guess but she had like three lines.

>>
>>335686276

I think "simple" music works better for video games.
At best, the music is not there just to fit the mood, but to be an integral part of the level, and it needs to be easily recognizable to do that

It's a damage slider in Deadlocked. What they've done since Nexus is make enemies lead their shots. It makes it real hard to not get hit when the screen is full of enemies. You can't just strafe left infinitely to avoid everything. They also spray their shots, so you can't quickly go left, then right, either.
>>
>>335691105
I don't see how it should be different now.

It's pretty good. Nowhere near as robust as R&C 2 and 3, nor as long, but it's pretty good. Yet to play the PS3s ones though, so I'll probably go through them to complete the series.

Some issues for me is the complete and utter lack of enemy variety (Blarg here, Warbot there), bad audio balancing (Generic orchestra drowns out dialogue), and the games unexplained obsession with bad social media jokes.

You know when you play a game, and its a alright game, but it just feels like a tech demo?

Story is okay, graphics are alright, but it misses its core?

Its essence, its sense of personality, that one thing that makes it different than just writting no story and just making 7 planets on a old engine? That's tools of destruction for me anon, a game that is alright, but will never be anything above it due to obvious lack of detail and care.

>>
>>335678783
I agree, the game is rushed as all fuck. It's super short, they literally just grabbed what I assume are scenes from the film and tried to awkwardly piece them together into a coherent plot and there are a ridiculous amount of bugs. It also somehow makes the story of the first game worse by having Ratchet and Clank be bland personality-less fucks who just become best of friends instantly, whereas in the original first game they're arguing a lot until they gradually come to terms with each other. And there's no arena in the game. It's too bad because the graphics and controls are great, so maybe in the future when they're not so rushed they can come out with a good "real" R&C game.

>>335679163
Did you notice that the hoverboard "races" aren't really races against anything but the clock? You're basically trying to get a certain time and anything under that time wins you the race. You can see it because you'll be behind the entire race then magically near the end the other racers forget how to do anything and you easily pull ahead of them and win.

In terms of design I mean, Id take the b6 over the Mini-nuke or gravity bomb. MKaye buff it a litle, always felt lackluster
>>
Nitro Launcher is objectively the best bomb weapon because it implodes before it explodes

Game is too short

I know right?

People really have forgotten how fiendishly difficult the first R&C Game was. Fucking two headed crabs with piss poor ranged attacks were considered one of the most dangerous things in the game. Let alone the few times you have to deal with hover tanks.

I'm fine with the original aesthetic to be honest. Still looks nice on the HD collection.

Mike Stout and Tony Garcia, Insomniac vets from their PS2 days, are literally credited for helping with this game

>it's pretty fucking clear that the Insomnaic that made this is not the same team that made the original trilogy
Uh, in what way? Some levels are beat-for-beat the same levels from the original game. The worst people can say is "well the characters never shut up" which you can stop by turning off voice volume.

You're probably also talking about the lack of "adult humor" which (if you've followed Insomniac at all) you'd know, Sony has been pushing them to drop constantly with every new game. They wouldn't even let them call ACIT "Clockblockers".

On top of that, this is a movie game (and therefore subject to the scrutiny/demands of the film producers and suits) and it's still miles better than Into The Nexus as a Ratchet sequel anyway.

Their goal with the Ratchet series since the beginning has been to make a "playable Pixar film" and that's exactly what this + the movie is supposed to accomplish.

>b-but the insomniac museum isn't epic like Crack in Time or whatever!
the original game didn't even HAVE one, and as it states, it's just a collection of assets and paraphernalia celebrating 15 years of R&C. I think this game as a whole does that extremely well.

Now the WRITERS on the other hand... kinda feels like *they* went full retard...

like the game part is great but the pacing and plot feels strange... once I see the movie in a few days I'll see if it still makes no sense.

tl;dr i platinum'd the game and the game parts are okay but the plot is bad

I dunno. I just really liked the planets, the weapons and the upgrade system.

Do you have a source on that? Clockblockers would have been pushing it, making a dick pun is several tiers worse than an ass pun

What the fuck are you talking about? The latest R&C is the ONLY R&C to display any interest in likening itself to pixar shit.

every ratchet game has gotten the title changed due to executive meddling
>>
>>335703869
The movie and game were built on top of Tools of Destruction assets, as they felt that game was the closest to looking like a playable Pixar movie

What was the old title of up your arsenal?
