While it would be nice if that was true, I don't think that's the case.
They probably delayed the game because the development is chaotic, they've revamped the whole game, maybe even multiple times. It won't necessarily lead to a more polished product, if anything it could turn out to be a complete mess.

There's been enough zelda, 2d mario is dead, and 3d mario gradually declined to the point that it's now who-cares tier. The remaining interesting IP's are dead.
