I am glad I didn't buy into the Wii U meme. Being a Nintendo fan is too stressful which is why I gave up back when they announced the original Wii. This pretty much confirms that they have no lineup for the rest of 2016 and they are just bracing themselves for the launch of the NX.
The NX had better have some real horsepower if it's to have any chance of success, especially with the PS4k right around the corner. Even if Nintendo has to charge $400 for the thing, it needs to have an edge over the Xbox One and standard PS4 if it's going to be relevant. The Xbox One and PS4 weren't even powerful systems when they launched, and if Nintendo is going to lowball it with the hardware again they might as well get out while they still can. Releasing a system with last-gen specs only worked once and it will never work again.
Nintendo is actually lucky that Sony is releasing the PS4K, because it's Sony who is breaking the traditional console cycle first and not Nintendo. The PS4K is a transitional console and the NX is as well, but the NX has to actually be good enough to compete with a console like the PS4K. If they are going to blow the MSRP on something dumb like including a phone or a tablet then it's going to fail just like the Wii U. They need to invest in a solid hardware configuration that will allow for impressive games, or it will be another "also ran." It's do or die time.

I was already done with Nintendo anyway, this only confirms how much they lost me as a fan over the last 2 years. Their most anticipated game is now multiplat and delayed to 2017.

Open world needs streaming for loading, which the engine might not do already, and the world needs to be designed around it. There's no point having an open world if it's still broken into little chunks like TP anyway.
Not to mention open world implies non-linearity of exploration, which again needs to be carefully designed beforehand.

Also Shenmue is niche as fuck, without the exposure E3 and Kickstarter gave it it wouldn've fallen flat on its face. Look at how receive Nioh has been, it's barely gotten any attention in normie gaming sphere, for a game like shenmue with much less striking appeal compared to Nioh it would simply go unnoticed

At first I was apprehensive about not owning wii u because I wanted to play Bayonetta 2 and Mario Kart 8. But considering THIS is how nintendo will support it's system it eases my heart a bit.
