Transistor's big problem is that Bastion had this amazing world to show, and each of the characters had the opportunity to remember it. They also gave you time to grow with the characters; You kinda like Zulf when he stops being catatonic, and he's a pretty nice guy untilHe sics the Ura on you after reading the journal. By the time you see him again, you have room to hate him, but still have the opportunity to forgive him. They mirror the choice then with the Bastion itself.
Transistor left it all in the item descriptions, which made it a lot less interesting. The only one of the Camerata you get any significant time with is Royce, and they wasted half of his screen time on an extended, self-aware infodump.
It could have used a short prologue, a few extra chapters of the Process wrecking shit (and associated extra enemy types), a bit more buildup to the Camerata.
Hell, It would have helped the narrative a ton if you met another real human before they've been processed so you can understand their MO (I'd have used some old archivist/librarian; Someone who escaped initial notice because they're basically preserved already)
A few more bosses, an actually significantly different NG+ (Flaw for both games: Really could use an "I don't need to coddle you" spawn table for the whole game after the first run.) and we'd be golden.
Hell, I would have been satisfied with one more chapter before the Camerata, one more with them, a Grant boss and another Process boss and we'd be golden.
Also, the whole set of "Man" enemies come out of left field and really should have been explained. Something like the Process producing antibodies because it assumes Red is some form of intruder (Since they're not currentlyacknowledging the Transistor)
