MTG player here. I gave the game about two hours over the course of three separate occasions. Its fucking garbage.
I just had a game where it decided to stack all my heal cards in a row as priest, so I just kept drawing heal cards as the enemy just put up giant after giant. The worst is I had lethal if I just drew one god damn auchenai, and of course with 4 cards left in the deck the 2 I have are at the bottom. Honestly I think Hearthstone is a really annoying game, and I don't know why exactly I play it. Draws are inherently RNG in every card game, but I feel like when I play MTG I can at least make things work even if I don't draw exactly what I need. Yet in Hearthstone you can just be absolutely fucked by RNG to an absolutely ball busting level.

It's hard to have fun as a free to play player.
I've only done 4 adventures now and I just get shit on by anyone who has sunk money into the game because they have all the cards they need for their deck. Meanwhile I'm a ton of dust off and still need to clear like 4 more wings to get all my cards

Most single-player games are not played competitively, in terms of the actual definition of competition, which is where two (or more) people want something and only one (or fewer than the number who want it) can have it. For example, people don't play Gothic competitively.
I almost included zero-player games like slot machines, but apparently there are such things as "slot tournaments," god help us. I think even high card (aka War) is played in casinos, though "people play it in casinos" is stretching the definition of "competitive" pretty far.
