It's more that the peak of witty mario rpg writing was wasted on a not-rpg. It's worth playing once but it didn't save the game.
IF the gameplay to this and Sticker Star was phenominal and not covered in bloated mistakes and issues, the story wouldn't stand out so much.

The issue isn't that it's a platformer now. That's great. The issue is that the game still thinks it's a fucking RPG and IS had their head up their ass the entire time.
You know what's great in platformers? LOTS OF CUTSCENES. And don't forget ENDLESS BACKTRACKING. Oh and that fucking chapter that is almost entirely the same fight over again and then running in a white space for three minutes.
