Because making hi-res sprites the way they did it involves making a 3D model, animating all the moves using the 3D model, then tracing the sprite from it and basically doing the entire work twice over, which takes a lot of time and money. The fact that they knew this and continued to make more sprites after XII so that they could have their game looking as good as they could make it despite the potential financial troubles involved is a testament to how devoted SNK are to their fanbase in my opinion. The fact that people have instantly turned on them because they just couldn't keep up that expense but still want to provide people KoF is the most entitled shit I've seen in years

Ok I'll explin what has been explained countles stimes during these threads. The way the sprites in XIII is as follows, first they make a 3D model, then animate it, next they take this model and draw over it frame by frame. One frame would take a whole day to make, one character took 8 months. More time to make a character means more money. Also in addition to that those characters that were made weren't even fully animated/had moves/winposes missing as well as the sprites themselves being sub HD. There is no way those would look as amazing as you think they would on a ps4 in 1080p plus to be honest some characters looked weird with the art style in XIII (roided up terry/ralf,clark, fat moeblob athena and moeblob yuri). In addition to all of that the time and money that is needed for shading like in GG xrd is just as time consuming and expensive.
