FFXIV? Go with whatever seems the most fun to you. Look up the job lists to see which classes you need to level for which job. I'd advise against tanking if you're still a little new to the game, tanks are expected to know a fair bit about specific dungeons and bosses. You can solo level pretty good actually, since conjurer gets an early skill, cleric stance, which swaps your healing and damage stat. Of course, it's not the most exciting way to level since you have three buttons to push where other classes have three times as much, but it works.
However, dungeons all day every day is a viable way to level. But to unlock them, you have to clear the main questline for most. So levelling a DPS first, then changing to a healer job and levelling that afterwards works quite nicely.
Or you could just take the easy way out, and level up Arcanist, which is the only class that branches out into two jobs, one damage, and one healing.

It's more like there's usually so little pressure on you that you might as well dps while you're not healing. This is from my limited experience leveling a conjurer to 20 in the trial.
There's three healing jobs.
White mage is about big heals, big regen, bigger heals, BIGGER HEALS. They also are the only healer you can start with from level 1, so that's a thing. As for damage, you get to blow your ennemies for dots, throw rocks at them when you're bored, and later on you get holy, which does big AoE damage and a chainable stun as long as you have the MP to support it.
Scholar is about dropping shields, letting your pet do the healing, and DPSing like a motherfucker. You got a stack system and MP regen skill on a one minute cooldown packed in one, which fuels your panic buttons basically. For low level dungeons, you basically let your pet do the healing, and focus on damage 90% of the time. Also, you can switch to summoner anytime for good measure.
Astro is the third wheel, kinda. You get a RNG dependant series of buffs, a couple simple dots, and really nothing spectacular until the later levels. Then, you get gravity for cool damage (no stun like holy though), you can control RNG a bit better, and you get to switch stances between a shielding one, and a regen one. That way, you can shield if you're with a white mage, and regen if you're with a scholar. A bit gimmicky, and generally considered a little bit worse than the other two, but hey, at least it starts level 30.

You absolutely can. Basically after level 10 or so, you get the ability from a class quest to learn other jobs. From there, you pick the class you want, take the token quest they give you, and from that point on, switching from a class to another is as easy as swapping your bow for a rod.

Early on, healing is easy as fuck because your basic heal restores a third of your tank's life, and most of your other team members are actually level 60 that curse their life right now because the roulette landed them on Sastasha for the eleventh time in a row.
I truly learned how satisfying healing could be during Brayflox' longstop, where I had to carry a band of retard that danced in AoEs like they're disco floors, handling both life bars and debuffs.
And then of course, the later you go, the more your basic heals alone don't do much, meaning you have to pay a bit more attention to regens, buffs, debuffs and AoE positioning.

Scholar is generally viewed as the most fun healer class for normal dungeons. Since regens don't stack, they're also viable endgame because it's miles better to have scholar/white mage than two scholars or two white mages (and as mentionned, astro is a third wheel)
Also, Summoner is godly in PvP, so even if you get bored of dungeoning, you have a good fallback plan. So I highly recommand the class. Second most fun after WAR. And that's coming from a black mage main.

I primarily play DPS, but Battleborn got me to finally try a support class and BAH GAWD, holding the lives of my teammates in the palm of my hand is the most satisfying experience I've ever had in a multiplayer game! More games need to have support classes do more than just tongue the tank's anus, because proactively slapping shields on allies during clutch moments, and marking enemies for increased focus damage is just SO MUCH more fun for me!

Almost every asshole I've encountered in ff14's doodie finder has been a healer. That and most healers are lazy fucks who don't bother to dps at all, despite how brainless healing is otherwise.

My experience as a combat medic goes like this:
>Spawn
>Sprint to zerg
>REVIVE GRENADE X3
>Revive every corpse in or near a corner
>Get shot by both enemies and friendlies in the process
>Either get overrun and die or follow the zerg as they overrun the enemy
Or
>Get killed by friendly, 50/50 my fault for trying to revive and heal everyone
>Get rev'd by one of the 5 other medics in the zerg
>Repeat

You don't see EMT's complaining about not getting credit for healing because they keep people alive and get rewarded for it.
Healers keep the party alive and get rewarded along with the party, even if the party doesn't congratulate them, you don't see DPS or Tanks getting all the pats on the back.Also most healer posters make it gay.

I started to main healer because I felt like I couldn't trust anyone else to do it properly and judging from the absolute garbage I run into when doing VA, Crystal Tower trilogy or anything else where I'm paired up with another healer it looks like I was right.
Like holy shit, the CNJ story line even tells you not to just heal all the fucking time and the instances are tailored around using your offensive options properly and SCH is literally the DPS class you were just levelling up with a healing pet and spells slapped onto it.
Don't even get me started on co-ASTs that stay on the same sect, overwrite your buffs or do other dumb shit like spread their spires.They're probably getting commendations for their piss poor performance too, simply because they're a healer.
